CLASS TRIP On Thursday, May 29th the Class of 1980 graduated from MHS where they prepared 12 years for that big wide world which would consist of college for some and work for others. But before this the class decided to spend seven fun packed days in sunny FLORIDA. Yes, the “orange” and “sunshine” state of the U.S. was about to experience the CLASS OF 80. Twenty anxious students and four chaperones gathered at the school the day after graduation to take that long journey to Chicago where they hopped aboard a Delta plane which flew them to Florida. After recooperating from the plane ride the group went to Walt Disneyworld where they spent the first two days shaking hands with Mickey and Minnie Mouse, taking that earth-shaking ride on Space mountain and of course EATING! Yes, it had something for everyone - Tomorrowland for those people that are always found in Space, Fantasyland for those people that dream about the impossible, Adventureland for those people that like to ... what else find adventure which Charles and Charlie did. On the second night in Florida the group enjoyed a Polynesian Luau and Gus Erickson who performed the original “Belly Boogie.” Following the Luau the travelers returned to the Davis Bros. Motel Lodge and enjoyed a large pizza while others explored Florida. On the third day Daytona Beach was the stop where they could enjoy minibikes, life rafts, ocean, sun OOCH! and food. After all of us mastered the art of SUNTANNING or BURNING in some cases, we returned to the motel with the evening free. The fourth day consisted of Sea World where we watched a seal fight for the hand MAY 30 TO JUNE 7 of a beautiful female seal and also we finally got the chance to meet that fun loving Sha-moooooo! (You know the killer whale) Well I hate to spoil your thoughts about Sha-moooo but I feel it’s my responsibility to tell you that Shamooo was a naughty whale but they put him in his room and he finally knew he did wrong so he should be safe. After Sea World the travelers arrived at Cypress Gardens where they watched the sking performances of the Cypress angels. The sixth day was free for hitting the beach or resting which many did take advantage of - Now at the Happy Dolphin Inn. Later that night the group enjoyed the Country Dinner Playhouse which was “The Music Man” All were very pleased with the show and also adopted the phrase “But he doesn’t know the territory. The seventh day was free for everyone to do what they had to and also it was the last night in Florida. Some enjoyed going out for dinner at The Fishery where the speciality was Barnacle Bills while others stayed at the Inn to do whatever. Later on many enjoyed the Hilton’s Disco and danced into the night. The last day spent in Florida was at Busch Gardens where people could ride the Python or watch the way Busch beer is made and packaged. From there it was on to the airport and home. Leaving sunny Florida behind, the travelers boarded the place where their stop would be Chicago and home. All in all the Florida trip was a time to remember and very special to all of us. TO FLORIDA!!! 29
