They held their breath while the Seniors smeared lipstick on their faces, drew anything from four-leaf clovers to suns, and even pinned balloons to their heads to celebrate Mickey Mouse's birthday. All during Homecoming week the fun continued, while they kept working hard on their float with the theme of 1 'Victory Does It Ring A Bell''. The class chose Jay Williams and Sheila Doty to represent them as the Freshmen Homecoming Attendants. As the year progressed the Freshmen felt they had to earn some money so they rattled off a television set during the Holiday Tournament. To end the year right, they sponsored a very delicious Chicken Dinner on May 7. After a year like that, I'm sure they won't forget their Freshman year at MHS, and will also make their following years just as successful. The Freshmen Class Officers were from left to right as follows: Mark Lane-Treasurer, Jamie Oberle-Vice President, Sheila Doty-President, and missing from the picture: Pam VanDeKeere-Secretary. The budding rose is only the beginning of its life, as the Freshman is only be -ginning high school. The rose matures as the high school student does also. The Senior and the rose, both reach full-bloom before the end. This year's Prom was one of the best. The supper was a buffet, which started at 6:30 p.m. Next came the dance and coronation. This year's Junior attendants were Trisha Oloffson and Chris Jacobson. After the dance, you could choose from a variety of things to do until two a.m. I'm sure prom was a memorable occassion for everyone who attended. In just three months, we will become Seniors and start looking back on all the years we have spent at M.H.S. Most of all we will start looking toward the future and try to decide what will become of the '' Class of 80. Student Council is a group of willing and elected students from each class, working for common goals and ideas ... representing and expressing the student body feelings, opinions, and interests. This year the Student Council had a very busy and profitable year, beginning with selling Homecoming buttons and Manlius pennants. Once again this money was used to pay for the Homecoming band. After selling buttons and pennants, they began to sell crystal etchings and later in the year, basketball pep buttons. The Student Council also participated in something new in the 78-79 school year by a student exchange program. For one full day of school, four Student Council members visited Anna wan High School to observe their school environment and in return four Annawan members visited MHS. For the last money making project the Council sponsored a Student-Faculty basketball game. The money is to be set aside for a Video Tape Machine. Other activities involving Student Council Help were the High School picnic which ended in a water balloon fight, the High School Christmas party, with the movie ' 'The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad,1' and the dance featuring Mark Lee's Avenging Angels. 59 STUDENT COUNCIL BAND Band Members were: Standing (L-R)-Cory Hartz, Ernest Hotchkiss, and Director Jeri Rimel. Dear Tom, It's too bad you missed this year's reunion. It would have been nice to have a professional photographer there to capture our 25th reunion. But after postponing it the three times you forgot, a majority of the class decided to go ahead anyway. Because I'm the editor of the Chicago Tribune and not a measely photographer, I guess I'll have to try and describe it with words and not pictures. Originally, plans called for the reunion to be held at Wise's Holiday, but because our party was so small, Chris felt that it would be a waste of money. Besides, he had just purchased a truckload of wet car cigarette lighters, and was a little embarrassed about the whole thing. Instead we decided to go to a small diner called the Prime Quarter, despite the fact that we'd miss out on the elegance of the Holiday. Bemie Benavidez got us the ' 'reservations''. Bemie has been far from inactive over the last twenty years. Presently, he is a soloist in Dana Foster's Quiet Choir, Plus One. The Plus one is Lori Jacobson, who sings extremely well, especially CHOPsticks. Because of the limited menu, we decided to have the party catered by Tonia Peterson's McBoar Power. There was some fear, however, that Renee Johnson would feel slighted, and her business isn't doing the best as it is. So out of sympathy, we decided to let her bring some of her gourmet dishes. (Her worm casserole wasn't half as bad as it looked.) Before the dinner, everyone was invited out to the Princeton Inn, where owner Greg Polte offered free cheese and cheese sandwiches to anyone willing to take on such a meal. After seeing the size of his concoction, we were all glad that LPN Sylvia Lowder was there, in case anyone should become ill. The dinner started at seven. With the exception of you, the only person who could not come was Mary Erickson. It seems she couldn't find a babysitter for her millions of babies. Peggy Martin had better luck, though. She easily found someone to watch her Keystone Kopps for the night. You probably will remember how our class had a fascination for cars. It still holds true today. Bank owners Jill Andrews and Rhonda Rudiger arrived in li-mosines. Their money arrive later in Mercedes. Cars have had a great influence on three other members of our class. Kim Sanden bought John Deere five years ago and renamed it Camaro Industries. Russ Monson is the head parking lot supervisor at Wrigley Field, where he supplements his measly $150,000 a year salary by scalping tickets. And David Nelson is a driver in demolition races. In the off season, Dave runs a little pin-striping business where he sells second-hand mailboxes. Another uniting bond of our class was sports. Olym-pists Lisa Jacobson and Art Hartz, coached by Leslye Anderson, graced us with their presence. Popularity hasn't changed them in the least. Humble Lisa never even mentioned the fact that she won ten gold medals to Art's one bronze. Paul McMahon went the way of professional sports. After buying the Los Angeles Lakers, and renaming them the Runnin' Rebels, Paul fired the head coach and hired old school chum Cory Hartz to take his place. It was rumored that Bob Prusator applied for the job, but Paul rejected him. A couple of our classmates have made it big in the entertainment field. The world reknown Avenging Angels, led by Mark Lee, have grown to a one hundred piece orchestra directed by Mark from a revolving one hundred and fifty piece drum set. Marie Rombouts has inspired both ' 'Beaker-19'' CBs and Lystil, a floor cleaner for sensitive noses. Perhaps the biggest surprise was that Kevin Wilson, the Hugh Hefner of Manlius, made an appearance. Kev's magazines are banned throughout the country. That doesn't seem to bother Kev, though. Whatever magazines he can't sell, he turns back into fertilizer. Bob Mueller sells both of Kev's products at his elevator, the ' 'Scaleless Grainery.'' Bob has made millions through the elimination of the time consuming weighing of loads. He simply estimates the size of the load and pays the farmer what he ' 'thinks is fair''. Looking back on it, 1 must say the reunion was something that everyone who attended will remember (especially Renee's worm surprise. Maybe she and Tonia could go into business together and make some sort of sandwich. They might even call it a ' 'Big Mac ). Well, 1 better get back to this paper. Mr. Gary Burton has some more ' 'interesting'' stories ready to go to print. Remember, the next reunion is on July 12, 2005. Don't forget your camera. Until now, this isle had only rested vaguely in our minds . Soon, the isle would be a memory. We knew that very shortly we would be considered a graduated class of Manlius High School. Some were happy, others sad, still others not knowing what to expect. We knew that our classmates might be seperated amongst the years to come ... not knowing if the isle we walked would be one of success for all, we left with each other a hope of ... 121 On May 31, 1979, the graduated class left from the high school at 4:00 P.M., headed for the O'Hare Airport to go on their class trip-FLORIDA.
