M.H.S. Varsity 9—0 Blackhawk Champs By the month of September not many people are quite ready for the game of football; except in Manlius that is! Last year at that time there were 44 gridders determined to prove that th$ Blackhawk Conference could be dominated by the smallest school, MANLIUS. Our team was big, fast, and inspired. All we had to do was win and that was exactly what we did. Wyoming 48—0 THE FIRST TASTE; A great crowd turned out to cheer the Devils on to a victory and the Devils certainly responded in |he correct fashion. Both the offense and defense were perfect as we rolled up 458 total yards and held Wyoming to a mere 62 yards. Mullin replaced the hurt Harp at halfback and did a fine job. Potter and Hansen both scored 18 points. Dunlap 18—6 THE EARLY SHOWDOWN; When the captains met at midfield for the toss of the coin, a Devil called the flip and won the toss. Since Dunlap was the visiting team they had the right to call the toss and therefore chose to receive. When we finally kicked off, Lower recovered the ball in the end zone for the only score of the first half. Our other scores were made by Olson intercepting a pass and Mullin on a three yard plunge. Walnut 30—6 BIG BLUE NOT SO BIG; The Red Devils put together another great game in taking Number 3. Balanced scoring and solid defense told the story. Touchdowns by Mullin, Hansen, and Potter showed our depth in the backfield. Thompson scored on a blocked punt. Coach couldn't say enough about the line after the game. Toulon 40—0 BUTCH CAME BACK; Toulon gave us the toughest first quarter we had had up until then, but every game has four quarters. Hansen hurt his knee on the opening kickoff but Harp was ready and waiting for action. Scores came on runs from Plumley, Potter and Mullin who had two. The final tally was a 30-yard pass play to Lower.
