BUSINESS FIELD TRIP—APRIL 30, 1969 Businessmen and women of tomorrow. Rita and Robin listen attentively to our guide at Caterpillar. O April 30 the commercial classes took a field trip to Peoria. We toured the Kroger warehouse, the Peoria Journal Star, Carson Pirie Scott G Co., and the new Caterpillar office building. No boys, this machine doesn't make beer. 18 SCHOOL PICNIC—MAY 23, 1969 Ooo, these seats are hard. Help, help, the boat is sinking. Only Mr. Burton would take pictures of girls' legs. Who says we're messy? On May 23, the high school students, all 120 of us, and the faculty traveled to Landuits Lake for the annual school picnic. The main attraction of the day, next to food of course, was the paddleboats. Everyone had a great time, even the teachers. 19 The Prima Ballerina Please, Mother, I'd rather do it myself!! I! Schubert, followed by the banquet, served by the waiters and waitresses. Ed Donahue, Jr. President, gave the welcome, and Bruce Jacobson, Sr. President, the response. The class will was read by Rick Raabe, and the class prophecy by Kathy Behrens. Afterwards, a short break gave time to set up for the dance, which was enjoyed by all. Crownbearers--Pat G Marcy DeBrock 28 EVENING IN VENICE 29 The highlight of the evening was the coronation. Anita Kerchner was crowned Queen and Alan Dale was King. Senior attendants were Karen Miller and David Berry, and junior Attendants were Chris Roush and Jerry Jacobson. 30 CLASS OF 1969 On May 26, 1969 the senior class of Manlius High School were presented their diplomas by Clifton Carpenter, President of the Board of Education. Several awards were given and the Commencement address was given by Dr. William Venerable. 32 SENIOR CLASS TRIP After working hard for four years, the seniors finally managed to save enough money to fly to Washington D.C. and New York City. We took off from Ohare Airport in Chicago on Wednesday night, May 28, 1969. We arrived in Washington at 1:00 A.M. full of life and ready to go. We didn't get home in quite the same condition though. While gone, we visited many interesting places and famous landmarks. They kept us pretty busy, but the trip was great. We had a lot of fun and the sponsors didn't even have to yell at us. Our New York tour included a stage production at Radio City Music Hall which was pretty fabulous as one of the New York newspapers was celebrating its 50th anniversary and sponsored the production. A few of the other places visited were the White House, the Capitol, U.N. Building, Statue of Liberty, Mount Vernon, Arlington National Cemetery, Washington Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, and Jefferson Memorial. There are others too numerous to mention. 34 Our sponsors, Mr. Andresen and Mr. Sale, and our busdriver, Kermit. Vicki catches up on some needed sleep. 35 Jerry Kirkpatrick American Legion Award Anita Kerchner DAR, and Woman's Club Award Karen Miller Salutatorian SENIOR AWARDS Ronald Hudson V.F.W. Even after ten years, the class of '69 hasn't changed much. I knew the minute I heard someone say-ine Hi, Big A1 here,” it couldn't be anyone else but goot old AL DALE, who is now married to his high school sweetheart, and, as of la count._ 8” kids. Did he tell you that he is in the nut and bolt business and also manufactures screws? Close behind him was his high school buddy, R. D. HUDSON, ®o ii now President of Dow Jones Company, and who plays an important part in the ock markets. Along with Ron was his old assi ant pop man, BRUCE JACOBSON who now has a rteady Job working for Miller's Highlife. With him, of course, was KAREN MILLER, who got time off from her busy xhedule as librarian at the Library of Congress to come to the reunion. MARY JO ALPAUGH, who is Karen's assi ant, wasn't able to get time off right now, but u.- u her re- but You kno I wasn't one bit surprised when JIM RATLIFF and RICK RAABE walked in wearing Bud we iter shirts. I always knew they'd end up working for that company. But wasn't it Schlit that they always preferred’Oh well. Didn't CAROL SLEAFORD jurt knock you over? I always thoughahe was pretty good at imitating Marilyn Monroe, but to be contracted by MGM to do her life ory is really something! You mu go see it—not only is Carol arring in it, ANITA KERCHNER left Carnegie Hall long enough to compose and direct the music score for the show. I hear it's really great. You know it was really nice of BUTCH SANDEN to let us use his new building Sanden' Wagon Factory, for our reunion before it is used for production. And it was great of LYNETTE BLACKERT and LOLA MONSON to give us all a free ride on their B C M Express to Walnut, so we could see it again before we left. While we were there, I was glad that we ran into Betty and DAVID BERRY. He now is manager of a factory in Walnut that makes slacks for tall men. I guess Dave doesn't have anymore trouble ripping out his pants like he used to in high school. On the way back, RITA OBERLE arted doing flips and cartwheels in the aisle. Later she explained to me that it keeps her in shape for her physical education class at Tampico High. She says die really likes working there, especially since ROBIN JENSEN is there also, working as head secretary and co-principal of Tampico High School. They both settled down there, and each have two lovely children. , Did you happen to notice STEVE WISE'S hair? I guess after he discovered how to transplant hair, he was made assi ant manager of Fluffo s Toupees, Inc. Adjoining Steve's building is KERBER'S and HOOVER'S Beauty Salon. Linda's and Marcia's training after school paid off, for their salon is known world-wide, and they only style hair of well-known actresses or wives of political figures. Didn't you think the food at the reunion was delicious? From her experience at Perry Memorial Hospital, KATHY CHESSER learned to be a caterer. I mu say, she did a very efficient Job. Talk about being efficient' I always knew that JERRY KIRKPATRICK was a good farmer, but to now own all of Bureau and half of Henry County is really something. I bet Mr. Lane would sure be proud of him. Did you get a chance to talk much to KATHY HARP? I think it's pretty keen that John Rashid gave the grocery ore to the Harp's when he retired. Kathy is now the official head check-out girl. She says she really enjoys her work, especially since JEAN WALLACE took over Porky's Pia and turned it into a hot dog factory. She has decided to adl it Jeannie's Weenie Factory. And right down the reet from Jean's factory is where VICKI STOLLER edits daily the Manlius Tribune. I hear she has a pretty tight schedule, but she manages to keep house and be a mother to three children. I never did get a chance to talk to DICK KUNEAU, but of course you and I both saw him this pa year arring in the Olympics. Isn't it good to see that all the hard practice and training back at M.H.S. paid off for one of the guys? ... Well, Let, I better be closing. I know you don't have much time for yourself, now that you've become a professional entertainer. I imagine with the Wizard of Os running in its seventh year on Broadway, you don't have time to do much writing.--but please try to--O.K. ? Well, I be be getting back to my books. My college-bound English class is right in the middle of Car erbury Tales, and they're having some difficulty undemanding it--It sure brings back memories! I can't wait until we get to Shakespeare! Take care of yourself, and write when you can.
