THE DEVIL PRESENTED BY MANLIUS HIGH SCHOOL MANLIUS, ILLINOIS The Business students went on a field trip to Peoria to visit various businesses and organizations. Among those they visited were: Francis DuPont Stock Brokers, Peoria Courthouse, WEEK-TV, Jefferson Trust and Savings Bank, and Midstate Business College. It proved to be a very interesting day for all of us. 2 ACTIVITIES 3 Homecoming October 1, 19 The Homecoming spirit was felt a couple weeks before the actual day, when plans for the floats were made. As the day grew nearer the spirit grew more intense. Homecoming was officially opened with the afternoon parade. The seniors won first in the float contest and the sophomores and juniors tied for second place. The Homecoming game on October 1, 1965 ended in a victory for Manlius against Princeville with a score of Manlius 28, Princeville 0. The following night, October 2, the traditional homecoming dance was held, featuring The Dukes of Rhythm. The queen and king were crowned as the highlight of the dance. The king and queen were Joani Thompson and Allen Edlefson. Their attendants were as follows: Seniors--Nina Draper and Gene Jaques; Juniors--Diane Roush and Bob Clementz; Sophomores--Sally Stier and Darrel Anderson; and Freshman--Karen Miller and Steve Wise. 5 SANTA COMES TO MANLIUS On December 23, 1965, the grade school was entertained by a puppet show followed by an all school sing. Then the student council arranged for Santa Clause to distribute presents to deserving faculty members. Among those to receive gifts was Mr. Greening for his outstanding instruction in dancing. Next came Mr. Andersen who, for his faithful service, received the title of Grant Dragon of the Manlius Chapter of the Ku Klux Klan. His pack empty, Santa left in a cloud of dust and a crash of chairs. HO! HO! That terrific faculty team with the help of their cheerleaders pulled the rug out from under the Senior boys in the greatest basketball game during the 1965-66 season. The faculty were ahead until the third quarter when the seniors added to the score to tie them. Then in the fourth quarter, the faculty slipped by to take the winning victory. The highlight of the evening was the appearance of Robin and Batman in their colorful costumes. A little practice won't hurt 45 SEATED: Arthur Carlson, Robert Jensen, Harvey Sandrock. The most enjoyable event of the year was when they got to throw water back at the seniors during initiation. As the sophomore year flew by so did the sophs in their cars with their newly acquired licenses wearing the most beautiful class rings ever seen at MHS. At the end of their year, the Jun. put on a very successful prom. Since this class is known as being leaders they decided to lead the path way to a new kind of prom, the all night prom. A wonderful Evening in Paris was spent by all who attended. Also during this year, 14 members of this intelligent class were honored by being installed in the National Honor Society. Their senior year was a very busy one for these 29 students. They hold the record for making the most money in a year of any other class, $2,200. After a beautiful graduation the seniors departed on their last excursion, a trip to New Orleans. They all enjoyed the trip immensely. V PALS Senior Twins HI! BUSY YEAR FOR JUNIORS OFFICERS (from TOP, left) James Behrens--secretary Bob Clements--reporter (BOTTOM, from left) Diana Roush--vice-president Dale Sierens--president Cynthia Ratliff--treasurer The first and one of the most thrilling events on the agenda was receiving our class rings. The high school agreed they were the most attractive they had ever seen. We were proud to have Diana Roush and Bob Clements as our class attendants for Homecoming. During the year we took part in various money raising projects. In May, we pooled our talents to create The Greatest Show On Earth. All said it was the most beautiful and successful prom put on at M.H.S. 56 Ruth King Lana Jusselman Michael Nelson Charles Nicholas 57 Darrell Anderson Larry Anderson LaVern Anderson Kathy Boyce Ruth Buckley Hilary Carlson Karla Carpenter Chris Chesser Pat Clementz Allen DeDecker Dennis Draper Ronald Frank Connie Hansen Marjorie Hansen Jim Hochstatter Mary Isaacson Jack Jaques Paul Kleinau Neil Knudson Marsha Konneck Babette Larson Diane Lickhart Mary Lower Ruby Mohr Mike Michlig Richard Nodine David Presnell David Rodgers Deanna Rombout Anita Schmidt Marleta Schmidt Sally Stier Julia Tremont Mary Thompson Mike Thompson Sue Thompson Dennis Vols David Wolford SOPHOMORES 58 Sophomore officers from left: Anita Schmidt--treasurer Mike Michlig--secretary Allen DeDecker--president Jim Hochstatter--vice president Kathy Boyce--reporter The Sophomore Class was very active and they set a shining example for the rest of Manlius High School this year. They held a dinner and three dances among their other activities. Their attendants for Homecoming were Sally Stier and Darrell Anderson. The biggest evert of the year was the ordering of class rings early in April. Although they had only one dinner and one dance they were active in other school affairs. The Freshmen show great promise of becoming great upperclassmen in the years to come.
