Dean Lubbs, salutatorian, welcomes everyone to commencement exercises. Randy Mullin addresses a capacity crowd with his valedictory speech. Mr. L. Goebel Patton, guest speaker, is shown addressing his audience. GRADUATION . . . A SYMBOL OF AN END . . . AND A NEW BEGINNING. May 29, 1964 8:00 p.m. New Bedford Field House Thirty seniors anxiously awaited their big night which would bring to an end their four years of high school. Excitement filled the air, but there was also sadness, for we were leaving our old friends and facing the world. Slowly we marched into the field house, which was filled to capacity, to the strains of Pomp and Circumstance, played by Mrs. Harold Laswell. After the graduates were seated, the invocation was given by Reverend Palmer Nestander. Dean Lubbs, salutatorian, presented the welcome speech. The full concert band presented two special numbers. The guest speaker, L. Goebel Patton, director of I.E.A. Dave Berry, Larry Edlef-son, and Merle Moore are the featured players in the band's selection, Trom-bonanza. SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS: Betty Nanninga, secretary; A1 Carlson, treasurer; Jim Thompson, president; Randy Mullin, vice president. On August 29, 1960, we green freshmen, 18 girls and 15 boys, entered Manlius High School to begin our four years of work and fun. We elected our officers who were: president, Randy Mullin; vice president, Jim Thompson; secretary, Jeanne Dabler; treasurer, Nancy Nelson. Our class advisor was Miss Ashdown, Initiation was our big event this year. We returned as sophomores on August 28, 1961, with 34 students. During the summer we gained one girl, Marsha Hampton, and lost one, Margaret Behrends, at the end of the year. Officers were: president, Sam Johnson; vice president, Jim Thompson; secretary, Greg Berry; treasurer, A1 Carlson. Our advisor was Mr. Ericson. We ordered our class rings in the fall and received them in the spring. As juniors we began the year on August 27, 1962, with 34 students. During the summer we lost one girl, Janice Brandt, but also gained two girls, Carolyn Nolan and Linda Harp. During the year we lost the new girl, Carolyn Nolan, and also lost Penny Last. Officers were: president, Jim Thompson; vice president, Randy Mullin; secretary, Jeanne Dabler; treasurer, A1 Carlson. Our advisor this year was Mr. Dergo. On May 4, 1963, we gave the seniors their last prom with Southern Cotillion as the theme. On August 26, 1963, we started our final year with 31 students. During the summer we lost Delight Briner and during the school year we lost Linda Miller. Officers were: president, Jim Thompson; vice president, Randy Mullin; secretary, Betty Nanninga; treasurer, A1 Carlson. Our advisors were Mr. Milburn and Mr. Laswell. Our final activity was our class trip to Washington, New York, and the World's Fair, a result of four years' hard work. 18

Randy Mullin, valedictorian, Jeanne Dabler receives the American Randy Mullin is presented with addresses fellow classmates Legion Award by post commander, Tom the Women's Club Award by and the audience. Cole. Mrs. Richard Oloffson. Public Relations Department, addressed the graduates and audience with a very interesting talk. After this, we listened to Randy Mullin present his valedictory address. Following this speech, the American Legion Awards were presented to Allen Carlson and Jeanne Dabler. Mrs. Lila Oloffson presented the Women's Club Award to Randy Mullin. Sam Johnson was presented with the Wyanet V.F.W. Award by Commander Roy Stone. Mr. Ed Wirth presented the Lt. Eugene Wirth Memorial Trophy to Gregory Berry. Mr. Floyd presented scholarship pins to Jeanne Dabler, Allen Carlson, and Sharon Hansen. Scholarship trophies were received by the top three honor students, Randy Mullin, Dean Lubbs, and Nancy Dabler. The senior class president Jim Thompson, presented the class gift, a clock, to the school. We soon heard our names being called, to receive our long-awaited diplomas, which officially ended our high school years. Sharon Hansen, Jeanne Dabler, and A1 Carlson receive scholarship pins from Mr. Floyd, superintendent. The climax of the evening was the presentation of diplomas by Mr. Floyd and Arthur Carlson of the school board. Nancy Dabler is shown receiving her diploma. After the graduation ceremonies, the graduates formed a reception line, to be congratulated by friends and relatives.
