Jhc flnwq)'S aPf Manlius f  UfiL TftKtS W LOOK The Annual has several important changes this year. Probably the most noticeable is the change in title. We realize tradition plays an important part in a high school; however, an annual must represent and tie in with its school. We, the advisor and staff, felt by changing the title to DEVILwe would have an annual that would be identified more closely with our school. â ' snrr Co-editors Joyce Foes Jim Jaques Assist. Coach Dergo has hopes of winning the Conference Crown again next year and predicts that Manlius will be right up there. Things do look good for the 1963-64 season. Only 3 lettermen have graduated from the team, which means there is plenty of experience ready for another season. The Junior Varsity had tough sledding this past year as they were not consistant enough to have a winning season. Things look up and a better season is expected next year. BASKETBALL GAMES AND SCORES Galva 50 33 The Red Devil Basketball team had Manlius 80 31 a 20-5 record. They tied for second in Manlius 68 33 the Blackhawk Conference. Coach Manlius 61 37 Jenkins has lost 3 lettermen from his Manlius 38 28 fine squad. As the season ended, the Manlius 56 46 starters were all underclassmen. He has Manlius 49 33 splendid material back with which to Manlius 75 57 build an even better team. He has 2 Manlius 61 55 All-Conference players back. TRIBUTE TO A FINE A THLETE KEWANEE 'STAR COURIER DECEMBER 29 ARTICLE One of the areas finest all-around athletes, Dick Fordham of Manlius, has been laid up all week in Princeton's Perry Memorial Hospital with what has been termed a broken back by his coaches. Doctors report that Fordham will be in the hospital for at least six weeks with additional therapy needed thereafter. Bill Jenkins, the basketball coach, said at the Wethersfield tournament that Thursday night's game was the first he had missed starting since entering high school. He appeared in 78 games and had scored 1,004 points. A starter in all sports, Dick was all-conference halfback his Jr. and Sr. years while leading all scorers. He also is a top sprinter and jumper in track and pitches for the baseball team. He was also an all-conference guard in basketball. Fordham was thrown from a truck and pinned in downtown Manlius. He lost all feeling from the waist down, but has since regained it. Drs. said that the odds against getting feeling back is 95 per cent against it. To show you Dick's great courage and determination, he dressed for District and Regional games. He also will compete in track this spring. 36 MANLIUS TRA CK SQUAD FIRST ROW: Randy Mullin, Neal Moore, Mike Choinere, Jim Kerchner, Gene Nanninga, Larry Nodine, Ron Wenger. After crossing over a bridge, you came into the garden. The sky was aglow with silver stars which seemed to make the water in the wishing well sparkle. After a meal of Southern fried chicken, served by the Junior mothers, a dance was enjoyed by all. Highlight of the dance was the crowning of the Prom Royalty. The Queen and King were Joyce Foes and Dick Fordham. Sr. att. were Sue Clay and Bill Wessel and Jr. Att. were Nancy D. Jim. 47 REUNION IN RENO â 1973! I was awakened on Saturday morning by a phone call from my former classmate and best friend, Joy Salzmann. The class of 63 was invited to the home of Jackie Rashid for our class reunion. Jackie and her husband live in Reno and own and operate a large gambling casino. On the way out we saw Neal Moore coming out of a bowling alley. He was still only averaging 62. He told us that another of our classmates worked as a private secretary at his corporation. That, of course, was Tessia Henson. Five of the executives had proposed to her and she just couldn't decide which one she wanted. As we proceeded farther, we came upon a large vetinarian clinic. Bill Kerchner was head Dr. at the clinic. He told us that Jim Jaques and Ron VanOrmer worked there. Jim was in charge of managing the clinic cars. Oh yes, Jim was still convinced that women didn't realize how well off they would be if they just stayed with him. Ron was in charge of managing the books. His experience in St. Louis helped him greatly. When we arrived in Reno, we saw Sue Clay and Dick Fordham walking down the street. Sue's husband was a graduate from Annapolis and was captain of a ship. She is now raising a little cheerleader. Dick was head barber on the ship and had many famous travelers as his clientele. He assisted as athletic director on the ship in his spare time. As we walked into Jackie's house we heard someone talking in a southern accent about her ten children. It was Joyce Foes who kept herself busy as a housewife and part-time editor of the Hasty Herald Paper. Sitting next to her was Alta Rollo. Alta and her husband now owned a large trailer court in the suburbs of Manlius. Carol Thompson was in charge of the children's nursery at the court. She had a lot of practice with all of her neices and nephews. Sharon Harrison was coming out of the kitchen after advising the cook on what to prepare. She was a cullinery expert because of her training in home ec at Milikin University. As we started mingling through the crowd, we came upon Ann Wallace. Ann was telling about her experiences. She had started working as an executive secretary but gave this up to devote full time to her perfect man. She still keeps up on all the .news between diaper changings. Then we came upon Marilyn Woodley who gave up her secretarial career to become Pres, of the International Women's League of Athletics. She was now married, but that was no surprise as she could always out-run any man. With Marilyn was her old-time friend, Dorothy Peterson, who was now married to a Dr. As with her patients, she had her husband sewed up in no time. In the comer of the room, we saw Buddy McCoy who was showing his masterpieces which he had first exhibited at the International Display of Fine Arts in France. Senator Dennis Whittaker was unable to attend because he was in special session dealing with the discontinuation of Cadillacs. He had to uphold the industry since he owned 3 4 of the shares. We found Bill Wessel and Lyn Nelson in a dispute about a new chemical fertilizer. With his scientific discovery of the new fertilizer, Lyn felt that it surpassed all others. As a gift to the Manlius graduates of '63, Wes Hunt presented each with a carton of his world famous cigarettes. By the way, I'm Ann Swan, who gave up an operettic career to become wife of an Augustana professor and now spend time singing lullabys to my three children. Joy married a history professor. She keeps in practice nursing the scratches of her twin daughter and son. 48 âSENIOR TRIP On April 7, 1963, the Sr. class left for New York and Washington D.C. While in New York, they visited the U.N.; toured the Bowery, Grenwich Village, Statue of Liberty, and other points of interest. While in Washington, they visited several Memorials, the Pentagon, and Capital itself. They arrived home 6 days later a very tired and worn out group. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Milbum. 49 AWARDS VALEDICTORIAN A Sharon Harrison n n W a 1 1 a c e WOMANâS CLUB Dorothy Peterson D.A.R.
