THE FACULTY The faculty of Manlrus H1gh School IS composed of seven members three men and four women They are all qual1f1ed school teachers that they have ln cornmon There the llkeness ends and they are as dxfferent as day and n1ght They all have Bachelor s Degrees and Mr Moore Mr Kelst and M1ss Coleman have Masters Degrees Ftrst the men Mr Moore IS one of those people who sets a good deal on the appearance of thlngs The lockers must be locked the doors shut the bl1nds even He ts of medrum stature soft vorced but he can make a student feel pretty much trodden upon when he flnds rt IS necessary to do so One of the thmgs he wants students to know IS that they re not run n1ng the place Usually theres no doubt about who IS running 1t He was graduated from the hlgh school at Mounds down 1n the peach growmg sectton The art of teaching and manag1ng a school he acqurred at Carbondale and U of I The ktds call htm Charlxe beh1nd hrs back of course Mr Rtce who above all thlngs hates to be called Elmer ha1ls from the central part of the state llltopolts 1n fact He lxkes to work w1th farm boys and they l1ke to work w1th htm He learned how at the U of l He can put on a sport Jacket and look like one of the krds He beheves heartlly 1n Work whtle you work and play whtle you play When he has a few mmutes to spare he llkes nothlng better than a game of pmg pong or to get out on the athletic freld wtth the students They lzke to have htm too and refer to h1m as a good guy and Good Old Doc Mr KGISI IS coach Hes a rather sertous UD rnlnded lHdlV1dUGl Theres not much fooltng Nlth htm but dont rmsunderstand Hes a good staunch frtend to every student who needs a frlend Although he has been here only a short whtle he rs well llked He labors and we mean labors w1th math and phystcs students Hes a tr1al and trlbula t1on to the janttor for at least twtce a week he leaves a llght on all n1ght beh1nd a locked door He attended school at Eureka College and Un1vers1ty of lowa He must flnd us an rnterestlng change from the Navy Mrss Love IS head of the Home Ec Department 1n fact shes the only teacher IH xt Shes slender of good hetght and how beautlfully she wears her clothes' She can cook too dont let anybody fool you about that Shes qutet and unassumlng but she certalnly doesnt let herself be trodden upon She doesn t seem to ever lose her temper 1n fact she s so calm we arent sure she has a temper although 1ts whtspered she has 1f and when students dont do thetr share of the dtsh washlng Her home ts at Edwardsvllle She went to school at Charleston She plans wonderful banquets and part1es and her 1nfluence wlll be felt for many years to come Mrs Swanson and how short the trme has been s1nce she was Mtss Van Ormer ts a Manllus gtrl She teaches commerclal sub1ects and although she doesnt talk much she never needs to to make you know she IS your fnend She IS a great favor1te w1th the students who love her for herself and her qulet ways She IS a very capable person havmg been secretary to the presrdent of Blackburn College and graduatmg w1th honors from the U of I Stnce Ne know what she can do w1th a ypewrxter we feel sure her mmble frngers w1ll soon be maklng ples and darn1ng her husbands socks w1th dlspatch Its all the students can do to keep from call1ng her lean Allen Mnss Haseltrne comes from Sprmgfteld Mlssourt She has been a stnger rn the past She has studted rn many dlfferent schools and even abroad Such schools at Drury College Boston Conservatory of Mustc Chtcago Umverstty and others have known her She has taught rn bxg school systems too San Franctsco M1am1 Flortda Colorado State Teachers College and IH Pxttsburgh She has lrved m crtxes and probably f1nds our lrttle town dull however xl thls ts so she never lets on One of her favor1te possesstons IS a red pocketbookl MISS Coleman teaches socxal studtes and Enghsh Shes short and rather lnchned to be thlck She worrles about dxetmg every other meal but neve: gets around to really domg 1t Her humor IS strong and she rs always laughlng In fact no matter how provoked she gets someone fn every group can always make her laugh then snes not mad any longer Students know thts fac and caprtaltze upon rt She went to the same school Mlss Love attended and dtd graduate work at the U of I She s always talkma about how much work she has to do and never getting done But all m all she ts a very ltkeable person and the students ln her classes appreclate her klndnesses and that wonderful sense of l-umor whtch has carrled them happlly through the year t . , . , . . - f l - ' 1 ' - - 1 .
