CLASS PROPI-IECY Whewll Are my feet tirel ny purse 1 empty and my hair is Gray I Ju t returned from my long ought tip and I wouldnt exchange rny adventure for any a iount of money For you see I 'ri t all my old cla mates You li never know how I kimped and aved vthile working those long ten years In the early spring of l954 I left Manlius on the streamliner with all my belongings including Donna Hartz bool' MANNERS IN THE CITY Miss Hartz is taking the place of the well known E1r11ly Post who has retired I arrived in New York at Grand Central Sta tion lust at dusk Wishing to have a good night rest I hailed a taxi To my surprise who hould be the taxi drivcr but my old hoolmate Donald Briner I asked him to take me to the mo t exclu ive hotel in town Donald exclaimed Oh you mean the Rodgers Astoria run by Kenneth Rodgers And indeed 11 wa the most elegant hotel I had ever dreamed of After ecuring my room and enioying a lusciou dinner at the Hotel I visited Madison Square Garden where University of Ill1no1 Coach Hubert Hewitt had brought his famous basketball team This team had surpassed all the Big Ten records that the original Whiz Kids had made Hubert s tea 1 was knovtn a the econa Illinois Wh1z Kids They defeated the Universlty of Notre Dame by a core of 82 I7 I arose early the following morning and made my way to the airport As I boarded the plane I was gree ed by Miss Mariorif Hochstatter who had finally achieved her life long ambition as air stewardess The plane was a gigantic trans oceanic luxury air liner She immediately took me to the cockpit and showed me another surprise Pilot Myron Anderson was making ready for the talfe off but he took time out to tell Margaret Wise was home caring for l1t1e Myron I I arrived in Liverpool with just enough tirre to dine before going to the theatre The play was Rorrieo and Iuliet The leading actress was Rene De Voisenoui better known o us as Doretha Van deVelde Before the play commenced I was observing the ways and manners of the English people I heard whispers through the audience that the Duke and Duchess were to be pre ent I was amazed when they arrived to see that the Duchess was none other than the iormer Margery Lee Allen After a few days stay in England I left and went to France Desiring to purchase a new hat I wert into a stvle alon A verv competent appearing saleslady approached 'ne You guessed 1t it was Mademo selle Yvette Wise After visiting the Mediterranean coun ries I sailed to Af ica Having read my Mission ary paper I learned that the Right Reverend LaVern Smith lSm1tty to youl had erected a mission in the Belgian Conao After a strenuous struggle through the lungles I reached Rev Smiths rnission I had xery pleasart visit with hirr' talking over old school days and then I was on my vi ay to Rio de Ianiero I ran into Iule Ann Gorman and Margaret Whipple Th f were'arr1ous correspondents for the CHICAGO DAILY TRIBUNE Their rareers began wh1Ie wo kina with the Red De 11 st ff of Manlius High School Frorn Rio de Ianeiro I traveled to Mexico City While attendlng a banquet I met Am bassador Ha rv Andrews who was speaker of the evening I tack the train to Los Angeles Deciding I would see more country if I drove I went to the Kinds Sale Serxice tc purchase a car R1aht aaain Lee Kmg was the sole owner of the Kinas Sale Serxice Driwira along the highfaf o San E anc1sco and list ring to my radio I heard the xoice of Na 1l,fn Roush on th p oararn Helpful Household Hints to the Ladies ' ef, 1. .
