This is the first year for Mankato to make the State Football Play-offs. The football team worked hard to earn this honor. With the seniors showing excellent leadership and the all new coaching staff doing an excellent job of teaching, the team finished the regu- lar season with a 7-2 record equal to the 1977 record which was the best in 50 years. The Cougars lost to St. Johns of Beloit in the District playoffs in a hard fought football game. All of the boys on the 1978 squad played hard and proved that they were winners.
