Russell Lange . . Dale Switzer . Duane Snyder The Student Council of Mankato High School is a member of the National Association of Student Councils. At the first of the school year, the Coun- cil attended a regional workshop at Osborne. Later in the first semester, the Council worked in cooperation with the local A.S.C. Office in presenting a Public Civil Defense Program as a community service project. A Halloween dance was also sponsored by the Student Council for the stu- dents of Mankato. During the winter, the Council received dona- tions from the people of the surrounding area for a memorial plaque for Dannie Leon Bird, a 1967 graduate of Mankato High, who was killed in action in Viet Nam on January 14, 1969. The second semester found the Student Council establishing a National Honor Society chapter for Mankato High. The Council was also in charge of the spring elections, and voted to send next year's president, Jim Munsey, to a Student Council Work- shop at K.U. this summer. 26
