AWARDS Cindy Halstead, Elaine Kale Kayette Camp Joyce Cranston Betty Crocker Homemaker Award Joyce Cranston, Kerry Kramer, Ed Dunstan Washington-New York Seminar Ed Dunstan, Kerry Kramer, and Joyce Cranston attended a seminat which consis- ted of a tour through some of the eastern states and expecially New York City and Washington, D.C. In New York City they met in the UN buildings with repre- sentatives from foreign countries and the United States to discuss current in- ternational issues. All sides of the issues were viewed, but the students were encouraged to form their own opinions. While in New York they were fortunate to attend the broadway play, Golden Boy . Other features of their stay in New York were a visit to Grenwich Village, the top of the Empire State Building, and sev- eral of the famous churches of New York. At the capitol in Washington, D. C. they conversed with our senators and representatives and visited many of the national monuments and shrines, the capitol grounds, the White House, several embassies and churches there. Honor Students SCHOLARSHIP CONTESTS An invitational scholarship meet was held at Downs in which the league schools and one or two others took part. Several of the Mankato students placed within the first three places in the subjects in which they entered. As a school we placed third in the meet, and we received a large trophy. We also participated in the Emporia Scholarship tests in class A. Since we entered in a higher class this year Dorian Meyer was the only one of our students who placed in one of the top three places. Several hon- orable mentions were given to other students who par- ticipated .
