They are linking agents, medi- ators; psychiatrists without couches, and politicians without parties. They are the connection between the school admin- istrator and the sidewalk superintendent, between the athletic coach and the down- town quarterbacks, between the classroom teacher and the coffee cup clique. To them is entrusted the responsibility of formulating policies and plans and of evaluating results. They serve without pay and too often without proper praise. 4 CLYDE REED Clerk ADMINISTRATION BILLY CONNOR Superintendent Southwestern St., Okla., B.S. M.E. Psychology ZETA WALERON Secretary PAUL ROBERTS Principal Pittsburg St. College, B.S. M.S. Biology, Counselor In the fall of 1964, the face of Mr. Billy Connor, the new superintendent of the Mankato Public Schools, was among the unfamiliar ones seen about MHS. Mr, Connor, who came to Mankato from Florence Kansas, also took over the duties of the grade school principal and much of his time was spent in the grade school build- ing. Under his watchful eye, the constru- ction on the new addition has progressed rapidly. Mr. Paul Roberts returned this year as the active high school principal. In addition to all his responsibilities as principal, Mr. Roberts was an effective counselor to students and taught biology. Mrs. Zeta Waldron was the busy secre- tary in the business office this year. Her friendly nature as she went about her many duties added warmth to our office. 5 Jerry DeLong Don Miskimon P.E.-Drivers Education-Science Basketball-Track Kansas State College of Pittsburg B.S. In New York City they met in the UN buildings with repre- sentatives from foreign countries and the United States to discuss current in- ternational issues. All sides of the issues were viewed, but the students were encouraged to form their own opinions. While in New York they were fortunate to attend the broadway play, Golden Boy . Other features of their stay in New York were a visit to Grenwich Village, the top of the Empire State Building, and sev- eral of the famous churches of New York. At the capitol in Washington, D. C. they conversed with our senators and representatives and visited many of the national monuments and shrines, the capitol grounds, the White House, several embassies and churches there. Honor Students SCHOLARSHIP CONTESTS An invitational scholarship meet was held at Downs in which the league schools and one or two others took part. Several of the Mankato students placed within the first three places in the subjects in which they entered. As a school we placed third in the meet, and we received a large trophy. We also participated in the Emporia Scholarship tests in class A. Since we entered in a higher class this year Dorian Meyer was the only one of our students who placed in one of the top three places. Several hon- orable mentions were given to other students who par- ticipated . The result was an evening of hil- arity end confusion. When the curtain closed, it left behind memories of monkey shines, hours of practice, and a successful production.
