The Cougars of 51 - 52 were definitely a team of inexperience. Led by seniors Butch Hayes, Sam Wagner and Gerry Howard; juniors Bob Boyd and Willis Mog; and sophomores Garry Boston, Jerry Seirer, Bill Carter, Jim Platt and Dwayne Nichols, the Cougars gave evidence that they will be hard to beat for the next two years. The rebounding of Butch Hayes was far above anything seen this year. The im- provement of Sam Wagner was another highlight; Gerry Howard, whose defensive work shown at the first of the year, was held back by injuries. Jerry Seirer, sophomore, who at the time of this writing is averaging 17 points per game, looks good for the future along with the ball handling of Garry Boston and Bob Boyd. Jim Platt was the back bone of the second team with an average of about 15 points per game, while Dick Boyd, Willis Mog, Bill Carter and Dwayne Nich- ols showed enough improvement to move up from the second team toward the end of the season. A Kayette Club was organized in Mankato High School in the fall of 19l 9. All of the girls in high school became members. The 1,000 point award was received for the 19U9 - 1950 years work. Some of the outstanding projects carried out that year were: A Heart Sister pro- ject, a Christmas party, Sadie Hawkins Sock Hop all school party, Mother-Daughter banquet, bought an electric coffee maker, bought 3 pieces of furniture, and attended World Day of Prayer. The 2,000 point award was received for the 1950-1951 years work. Some outstanding projects for that year were: Conducted Cancer Drive, kept a nursery at P. T. A. meetings, sent a C.A.R.E. package, presented a make-up kit to the dramatics department, operated the food concession at basketball games, sold Christmas cards, picnic given by Big Sisters, Father-Daughter banquet, four dele- gates attended Winter Conference at Belleville, and two members were sent to summer camp at Camp Horizon. For this year, 1951 - 1952, the following projects were undertaken: Finance projects: Advertising for football programs, sold Christmas cards, served at foot- ball and basketball games. The club and F. F. A. gave the school a concession stand for football games. World and Community Service: Christmas seals, sent 3 World Friendship packages, helped Kaw Valley School Library which was in the flood area. Social projects: Christmas Assembly for entire school, P. T. A. program, chili supper for Board of Directors, Mother-Daughter banquet. Four delegates attended Winter Conference at Blue Rapids. Delegates will be sent to summer camp. These are some of the projects the Kayettes undertook from the time the club was started three years ago. Each member participated in several of these pro- jects and enjoyed doing the work. We hope to get the 3,000 point award for this years work. As president of the Senior Class, I, Sara Wagner, invited my former classmates to a reunion at Wagner Coast to Coast Drugs , a new store in Mankato. I chose this as a meeting place because we all went to High School here and because my Mankato store started me in the business that resulted in my chain of drug stores that stretches from Maine to California. Arrangements included a coke and then dinner at Claudene Hansen's Lonely Hearts Club in Mankato, located in the Rest Well Hotel. This hotel is more famous than the Stevens Hotel in Chicago, Illinois. Quartet tables were decorated with ur class colors, blue and silver; red roses, our class flower, as boutonnieres were waiting for my classmates. The first to arrive was Admiral Norman Ifyers. He was home on leave from his position as Commander of the U. S. Navy. Vic Smith rode up in her Buick convertible. Vic is the owner of the largest cattle ranch in Texas, The Silver Horseshoe . She tells us that one day while she was walking in her front yard she stubbed her toe on a rock and a gusher of oil shot up. Bob Murphy and his Jazz Kats with Shirley Red Hot Zimmerman as his pianist arrived to do the entertaining. They came here from an engagement at the Broadmoor in Colorade Sprinrs. The owner of the shoe monopoly, Mr. Gerry Howard, arrived with his new sensa- tional Tug Boat shoe design. Gerry orginated this design while vacationing in Japan. Carolyn Kelly, the world's foremost dress designer, recently was acclaimed most outstanding dress designer of the year , after designing dresses for the Connia- Shirla Modeling Agency of Denver which is owned by Connita La Dartnesky and Shirla Louisea Wilsmonsieur. These two girls, formerly Connie Dart and Shirley Wilsman, went to Denver after graduation to attend business college. In striving to become model secretaries they got their idea for a modeling school which is recognized as the best of its kind west of the Mississippi. Hearing a disturbance in the street outside, we rushed out to greet our former classmates, Ferris Chilcott and Marvin McDill. Ferris and Marvin are more com- monly known around the nation as the owners of the Chilly - Dill Rodeo. Arriving at the reunion, Charlotte Hanson, the former Charlotte Lichty and Norma Mog, greeted their friends with a How are ya all? Charlotte lives with her hus- band on a large southern cotton plantation. Norma is the Kayette Director for the state of Alabama. She became interested in this work while serving a year as pre- sident of the Kayette Club of M. H. S. It seems these two can't be separated; they haven't been far from each other since they were in the fourth grade. Editor of Charm magazine, Norma Jean Houghtaling, entered into the gaity with copies of Charm for everyone. Norma Jean has the most widely read woman's maga- zine in the world. Congressman James Matousek has just arrived from Washington D. C. James was elected to the House of Representatives following Congressman Wint Smith's re- tirement. Here from Tacoma, Washington was Bonnie (Hodges) Bingham. She is living with her husband who is in the Air Force. She brings with her Augusta William IV (her Panda Bear). Another classmate coming from a distance was Gerald Carpenter. Windy owns a used car lot in Hong Kong China. He reports that business is very good since he learned to speak two languages. A late arrival was Rosa Lee Proctor, who has taken Dagmar's place on television. She is a famous T.V. entertainer. She canceled twelve shows so she could come to the reunion of the class of '$2. Last, but not least, is the accountant of our class, Gerald Sanders. Gerald established a system of bookkeeping while working for R. L. Dean, Wholesale Grocer, as a bookkeeper. His system is now recognized as a very efficient one and his book on the subject, Do It Sander's Way , is a best seller.
