When we left the old building, we left behind many memories to step into the new and ex- citing adventure of being the first class in a new school. We left behind the familiar halls and class rooms, the gym where so many dances were held, the locker that always seemed to stick, and the three flights of stairs we ran up and down five times a day. We had the adventure of exploring an entirely new school, dedicating the gym and football field. We have enjoyed and appreciated this opportunity. In future years, as you leaf through this annual, The Mustang of 1957, we hope that fires of almost forgotten memories and experiences will be rekindled and relived. i 9: ff-w-72 r rjvf' ' SENIORS UNDERCLASSMEN ACTIVITIES JUNIOR HIGH FEA TURES SPORTS Durrng the 10 years that Mr Bundy has been wrth Mamtou School he has burlt for the students two new bu1ld1ngs Frxe years ago wrth the old school burldrng crowded wlth elementary Jumor Hrgh and H1gh School students Nlr Bundy suggested the burldrng of a new grade school burldrng adjacent wrth the old h1gh school burldrng For a few years th1s relrexcd thc c owded classrooms However rn a few years rt was decrdcdthat the old h1gh school bu1ld1ng was not 'ng enough for the Hrgh School and Junror Hxgh too In 1914 II was decrded to pro ceed wrth a new Hrgh School bu1ld1ng here rncludrng the bu1ld1ng of the new h1gh school for us He has been very popular w1th the students as both super1ntendent and pr1nc1 pal the pos1t1on he held before bemg appornted to the pos1t1on of superrntendent To Mr Bundy the students of Mamtou extend therr SIUCSIC thanks for all he has done for us Mr Asbury has been w1th Manrtou l-hgh School two years Servrng as pr1nc1pal and algebra teacher he has helped to make our school a more pleasant place to work and play He has mherrted from Mr Bundy many of the unpleasant tasks as well as the pleasant ones among them the task of adm1n1ster1ng dtscrplrne It speaks well for the klnd of man he ts that hrs populanty has not suffered because of th1s Those who have been IH h1s offrce for d1sc1pl1nary measures feel they have had fa1r treatment Mr Asbury has helped to gurde many M H S students on the way to then' destrnatlon and to h1m M H S students say Thanks ' Mr. Bundy has done much for the students of M. M. H. S students are not only dependent upon their Council of 1956-57, but they are also proud of it. David Penman, Student Council president, has worked hard this year to give the students a year to remember. One of the bigger problems the Council undertook was the selling of savings stamps. This was the first time this had been done in the Manitou school system. For the first time in M. H. B. Richardson has been the sponsor of the Pep Club for 34 years. During that time, Manitou High School has grown from a small country school to a school of con- siderable size. As the school changed, the Pep Club changed, and today it is a club of 33 members. Several activities are sponsored by the Pep Club during the school year. The Pep Club dance is one of them. Each year a dance is sponsored by the club for the members and their dates. Two dinners are held during the year, one of them being the Pledge Dinner. Each boy is required to go through a period of pledgeship before he is considered a member. At the Pledge Dinner the pledges' ribbons, a symbol of their pledgeship, are removed, and they become junior members. At the Farewell Dinner, the Seniors are honored and awarded a plaque with P.C. on it. In the 1956-57 school year the P.C. constructed the M on the hill west of the new football field. This M is lighted at all the home football and basketball games. The large white M seen at the west end of Manitou was built by the P. C. and it is newly white-washed each year by the club. The Pep Club, now a club for the junior and senior boys, whereas the sophomores were formerly included, has, for the last 34 years, provided good, clean fun for the boys of M. The Sentinels promise to be an active organization in future years. -5 5- ARISTONIANS - NEW SOCIAL CLUB ORGANIZED FOR FRESHMAN AND SOPHOMORE GIRLS Aristonians in their first year proved to be a very worthwhile club. Under the leadership of Mrs. Dil- lon and their officers, they started several customs to make the club distinctive. Last fall they began with the 30 sophomore mem- bers wearing blue and silver ribbons and the 17 fresh- man pledges wearing the same colored beanies. To make sure these pledges were represented, it was decided that the secretary would be a freshman. The Aristonians planned several social functions as well as a special assembly that was presented to the high school and the junior high. These girls, too, have been really great this year helping our B string. While the girls get together during the foot- ball season, they do it other times too, such as the days they came up with the player of the week. All seven girls deserve a big hand for the job they do at the games, in the halls, and at the pep assemblies. When the night came around though all those particular problems had vanished The program of dedication was impressive and one to remember with all three groups of people that have a vital interest in the affairs and running of the school takrng part in the program After the program all the classes were held and the Prospector and Mustang Staffs explained to those interested how you make an annual and paper A sample Prospector was mimeo graphed and grven to each guest While all this was going on the Home Ec department was serving all the guests The night of the 27 was really a highlight so much that no one showed up until 10 OO the next morning With permission of course One thing the Open House brought that we will enjoy and appreciate for a long time are the - ' Y I - I I 1 n I 1 I TA . l I C X 4 K i . v . , . . tion began except for some of the students and all the teachers who worked hard to get their equipment in some - , . , . - . . . beautiful flowers. During a lull after the Open House the Mustang staff worked night and day to get ready for their second deadline. The night meetings were especially interesting if you like to tell creepy stories at 10:30 in the main hall with only a Flashlight. The whole student body really looked forward to February 7, for then the advertising pictures were taken. All things considered, this year those pics came off pretty smoothly. With two work crews working at the same time we even kept to a schedule. A new flag and new walk to greet you now, Valentine Day, and the D. A.R. pre- sented the new building with an equally new flag. Another welcome addition to the building was the milk machine in the east hall. The 15th we received our span for us' first polio shots. The groans the guys gave out were something the most ex- pert actor would have recognized. They keep our new building Spic and The basketball team really was hot, so much so that we tied for second place in the Pikes Peak League.
