Dennis Cawthorne Student Council President STUDENT COUNCIL School spiritand student-faculty cooperation rose to probably its greatest height in several years during 1957-58. The MHS StudentCouncil has striven to give the student body an able and effective voice in school affairs. During the spring of l957a school-wide elect- ion was carried on, and amid speeches, bands, and posters the student bodyelected Dennis Cawthorne and Bob Strzyzewslci as president and vice president respec- tively. Other members include Seniors Don Groves and Arlene Engwall, secretary, Juniors Ida Anderson and Jon Snyder, Sophomores Sylvia Merlcey and Ed Madsen, Freshmen Charlotte Wieda and Jim Knight, 8th graders Linda Larsen and Jim Baumgartner. As Council mem- bers, they practice democracy. During the year, the Council sent SC members into homerooms to make periodic reports, presented 3 SC assembly reports, reorganized certain Council proce- dures, sponsored meetings on high school baseball and revival of school paper, sponsored Homecoming fes- tivities and school Christmas party, and worked to im- prove manners and conduct of our fine student body.
