The biggest social event of the year was the annual Hi-Y Banquet at the Hotel Chippewa. Several ot the members attended the Pre-Legis- lature in Mt. Pleasant and the Legislature in Lansing. ln the spring around half of the club went to the annual Older-Boys Conference. The officers are: President, Clare Schindler, Vice-President, Jess Hill, Sec- retary, Norman Smithe, Treasurer, Rus- sell Dore. Yi, 4,41 if 5 if ,is Tri-Hi-Y The Tri-Hi-Y, organized to create, maintain, and extend high standards of Christian Character throughout the home and community, is under the advisorship of Mrs. Capper. Under the direction of President Mary Lynn McCorkle and offi- cers Judy Kuehl, Vice-President, Marilyn Nelsen, Secretary, Shirleen Parkison, Treasurer, the Tri-Hi-Y held an Older Girls Conference, the first to be held in the State of Michigan. ln the fall the Tri-Hi-Y sponsored a very successful Sadie Hawkins Dance and a Christ- mas Window Contest. Several of the members attended Pre-Legislature in Mt. Pleasant and the Legislature in Lansing in December. The membership was the largest in the history of the club. pA0!0gl'al9Ay The Photography Club, organized to develop a knowledge of the fundamentals of taking pictures, developing, printing, and enlarging. Chuck Deehr is President, Bob Shirley, Vice-President, Sharon Carlson, Secretary, Jack Batdorff, Treasurer. Membership in this society is one of the highest honors of the school and the goal of every student. Members are chosen for their out- standing scholastic abilities, 15 per cent of the Senior Class and 5 per cent of the Junior Class are chosen each year. Membership is honor- ary and the banquet is held yearly to elect new officers. Mrs. Rebe Clason and Mr. Norbert Radtke are the fac- ulty advisors. MOLLUOPIR5 The Bookworms, under the direction of Mrs. Hough, is organized to help students with their library problems and to help keep our library in good condition. C.-1' The Pow Wow is a new club in school this year un- der the direction of Miss Bagocius. The club has gone a long way toward promot- ing school activities, such as helping the Athletic Associ- ation and putting on Pep Meetings. Their biggest proiect was the radio pro- gram Inside Manistee High School which ran from .lan- uary through April. xl -, 'ics- The annual staff, with their advisor, Mr. Stanley and co-editors Mary Lynn McCorkle and Chuck Deehr worked hard to meet their deadlines. Much credit should be given to Chuck Deehr for the photography and also to the section editors for their work. The Chippewa Herald, under the di- rection ot Mr. Stanley and the able editorship of Mary Ann Swanson, is pub- lished once each month. If you were to enter C-4 during fifth hour, you would see the members of the Journalism class busily proofreading, writing copy, or setting up the dummy for the paper. The boys competed with other schools in the lower peninsula and had a record of five wins and one defeat. The first Manistee High School Girls Team, composed of Marlene Stolt, Mary McCorkle, and Hope Ramsdell. They com- peted in three ski meets. if .Sli CL! This year marks the sixth year of the Ski Club. Lewis Ramsdell was again elected President. Mr. Capper is the ad- visor. The club members worked many hours in the new Manistee Ski Area and held two meets there. This year marks the fwenfy-fourth year of the Manisfee organiza- tion. A match af Grand Haven was held in February. Mr. Simons and Mr. Howe are the advisors. The Drama Class of T953 1954 was the largest in some time Under the direction of Mrs Kulow they presented many plays for the student body throughout the school year They also attended the play festival at Mt Pleasant. This past year the Thespian Club presented two Christmas plays for the enioyment of the student body. The annual Thes- pian Initiation and annual pic- nic was held in April.
