The Styles and Fads of l96l-i962 Joan Fellenbaum and Mike McCue model school wear Date attire is worn by Lonnie Kulp and Tony Witter. Relaxing in sports garb are Jill Gun- ner and Dick Epler. The year - l96l-l962. Trench coats and sneakers appeared everywhere. Short skirts, high socks, and Ca- pezio shoes were favorites with the girls, and it was continental pants, ivy league shirts, and crew neck sweaters with the boys. Teased hair became stylish for the girls, and Princeton hair cuts predominated among the boys. Both boys and girls wore bermudas and clam diggers when they headed for the Shore. Pizzas and cokes intermixed with the Twist and the Bristol Stomp created a typical weekend party atmosphere. Parrish Joy Groeschel and Betty Diller leave school in a foreign made Sprite Margie Parman and Jim Buller pose in formal clothing. and Breakfast at Tiffany's highlighted the cinema fare of the year. Michael, Run Around Sue, and School ls Out topped the popular record charts, and Bobby Rydell, Frankie Avalon, and U.S. Bonds were included in the well-liked recording artists. Styles and fads remain significant factors in the life of a teenager. These were this year's styles and fads, but they are forever changing and no one can predict what they will be in the future. The Perplexing Problems of Youth Just another daily crisis. June Mad, by Florence Ryerson and Colin Clements, is the most appropriate description of the season of the year and the condition ot the Wood family. Growing up has never been easy, but it was es- pecially dithcult for teen-age Penny Wood as -she struggled to adiust to the ways of adult lite. Penny had gone with Chuck Harris, the boy next door, for several years and their friendship was quite complete until one day a handsome college senior came home with her Uncle Mervyn. She immediately discarded all of her childish antics and attempted to become the attractive young lady who would appeal to a college boy. In her attempts to please Roger, she disrupted the lives of many who were close to her. l-lovvever, from this experience Penny learned the value of friends and the need to associate with people her own age. All this was vividly portrayed by the iunior class when they presented the play March 30 and Sl, l96l, under the direction of Mr. Russell Berkheimer in the C. Howard Whitmer Auditorium.
