HDJIUIU me on As each Annual is published year after year, the members of the sponsoring class, and more espetially the Yearbook Staff, are presented with a challenge to equal and, it possible, surpass the finished product of their predecessors. l.ife after graduation presents the same challenge. You will constantly be offered opportunities to make your contribution to society and thereby surpass the achievements of those who have gone before you. The degree of your success in meeting this chals lenge will determine to what extent your community, your country, and the entire world will be a better place in which to live. Your Staff has met its chal- lenge, May the entire member- ship of the Class of 1957 do as well. l should like to congratu- late the members of your Class on their achievements so far and wish all of you the greatest suc- cess in the future. D. M. VUITMIZR, I'rim'il1mf ,L 1 C 'V 1 Another graduation is forthcoming. The members of the Class of 1957 and myself have had our differences of opinion in the past. As the years have passed, those differences now seem small and unimportant. This is how it should be. After twelve years of worl-4 and play, each of you has reatlied a point in life where de- tisions will lac' more or less up to you. This is what makes indepentlenty a difficult thing to fate. l trust that your school life will aid eath and every one of you to face the realities of life and lead you on to the path of success and happiness. i-A A R. ctlicarion We, the class of '57, dedicate this yearbook to understanding -an un- derstanding or mutual friendship between the people of Mannheim, Ger- many, and those of Manheim, Pennsylvania. Through our yearbook we hope to give a better interpretation and under- standing of ourselves to our friends across the sea. The improvement of the understanding is for two endsg first, our own increase of knowledgeg secondly, to enable us to deliver that knowledge to others. -Locke.

Your class is marking another milestone in your march upward and onward. Now you have an advantage never before quite within your reach-the privilege to look back over the whole span of your formal education in public schools. To be sure, you will have some regrets which you express in terms of saying, If I only had a chance to do things over, I would certainly do differently. On the other hand, you have many pleasant memories of work and associations that you are able to recognize. In response to this recognition you can say, These were the happiest days of my life. It is upon your achievements and hopes that you will continue to build and to advance. Graduation is a significant step into a bigger beginning. It is a door to a threshold of great adventure and exciting and challenging opportunities. It is a go sign to in- vest your talents and personality in the service of your fellowmen. It is a testimony to your worth and importance as an individual. It is a reminder of your initiation into the opportunities and responsibilities of adulthood. It suggests that you are ready for bigger and better things. This new experience should evoke a determination on your part to assume full re- sponsibility for your endowments of time, talent and substance in response to the call of duty. When duty whispers low, 'Thou must', The youth replies, 'I can.' My best wishes for health, happiness. and prosperity go with you as you move into new fields of endeavor and my heartiest congratulations to you all. DR. HENRY G. BUCHER, Supewirizzg Prizzripnl
