The granting of this petition for permission to publish the first yearbook in the history of the school began. for the class, a new venture. As time passed, and work progressed, perplexing problems often sprang up, but through the cooperation of each classmate. the advice of their teachers, and the aid of the townspeople and advertisers, these problems were soon conquered. If, as the reader follows Ywmie. the created theme, through THF STIEGEL ROSIZ, he finds that the glimpses of school life captured here bring back pleasant memories of his school days, the Class of '53 will be satisfied that this book, the material product of a dream come true, is a goal worth the effort to attain. The information should depict all the activities pertaining to school life which will be of great interest to you in future years. The board of directors, pupils and faculty in the entire area deserve commendation for their cooperation in making the re-organization of the system a reality. Since the citizens have provided the physical facilities, the student body and faculty have a real challenge to take advantage of the many opportunities provided for them. Generillv ycilcinyc the imbition for pupils is to receive .1 high school diploma. In many ci cs this mcins quite a sacrifice that is being made by your parents and some difficult tislcs to be performed by you, I wish to congratulate you upon achieving this goal incl trut thit you miy have a happy and successful future. I-I. C. BURGARD Salma! gourd principals ' Messages It seems such Q1 short time since as Sophomores the Class of 1955 conceived the idea and received permission to publish the first Year Book to be published by ri class of lNl.mheim Central High School, Considerable effort put forth by the ytirious committees h.1s resulted in the pro- duction of this first copy of the S'I'IEGllL ROSE. I should like to LOflgl'lltL1l.llC the st.iff and the class upon this achievement. D. W. XVITNER Upon your graduation you will have completed .in im- P1'i12i'i,f1.1f portant phase of your life. ln the case of the yearbook the ultimate goal is more readily discernible. It is the finished product . . . the yearbook. But the completion of your high school career is just the beginning of ei lmppy life of Seri ice to your family. your friends, and your com- munity, in which you have the opportunity of displaying those .tttributes of ch.tr.1cter which have been instilled into you in the development of your personality during your d.iys in school. Min' I congratulxte the gr.1du.ites of the Class of 1955 and wish each one of you the grcqitc-st success in the future. D. XV. XVITMIZR Piillcjfml ROBERT A. XVEITZEL A i ff. pfllleflldf Most High School Seniors look brick on their school days as an experience of too much study, discipline, regimenta- tion, and hard work. Actually, you will find that these problems only begin when you start to make your own living. and that your school d.1ys were really happy days. 'l-llls rc-.iliztition then demands courage, integrity, honesty, dc-termin.1tion, and resourcefulness to attain it sutcessful .ind happy life. It is my sincere hope that the members of the Class of 1953 reach the goals they have established for themselves and with each and every one of you go my best wishes for happiness and success. Harry Earhart, Gilbert Young, and Charles Longenecker. about some current events. ,J ' ' uf -F With usage, literature, composition, plus the other phases of English to be clarified in the minds of the pupils, the ENG- LISH DEPARTMENT has a great re- sponsibility. Ably tackling this import- ant task are Miss Theora Bishop, Miss Margaret Stephens, Mrs. Eulene E. Shep- herd, Mrs. Vivian H. Brown, and Earl Stoner. Mrs. Brown also teaches Latin and French, while Miss Bishop acts as guidance counsellor. Teaching geography, chemistry, physics, biology, and general science is the job with which the SCIENCE teachers. Ber- nard E. Reese, Donald A. Sayitz. Miss janet XVood. and john S. Stern have to deal. Through constant work they man- age to give their pupils .1 bit of the knowledge of what makes this old earth hum. ,xv-1. tj' E Seated in the cozy atmosphere of the HOME ECONOMICS room are Miss Catherine O. Reppert and Mrs. Catherine C. I-Iiney. With the help of their newly and beautifully equipped home-economics department these teachers help the girls learn the many ways in which to turn their households into happy, heart- warming homes. Since AGRICULTURE plays an import- ant part in the welfare of the nation, the agriculture teachers, joseph H. McGahen and Elbert I.. Scouten have an influential role in the community. fmmbzw. HOLLOBAUGH Upon their entrance to high school as freshmen, the Class of '53 was much in need of advice and guidance. Coming to the rescue of this group of greenies were Miss Mary Alice Hunter and Sherwood H. Hollobaugh. When, during the middle of the junior year, Miss Hunter left for navy life,,Mrs. Strasbaugh took over her responsibility. . Mrs. Eulene F. Shepherd came to Mr. Hollobaugh's aid in guiding the class through perhaps its hardest and most important year, its senior year. Here Shirley Faus, Lorraine Grube, Frank Shenk, Kenneth Kover, Mildred Stauf- fer, and Kenneth Nauman anxiously await their turns for some of this good food. It makes just right in the music room for, first row: Gloria Gish, Catherine Groff, janet Shockley. Second row: Ethel Shaffer, and Reid Graybill. Whether it is a class assembly or special program, entertainment in the new audi- torium is enjoyed by everyone. Here Larry Smith. Gladys Shonk, Louis Her- shey, Dorothy Rambler, and Clyde Tshudy find their seats. Regardless of their newness, the showers often do make the girls' hair stroohly, Sylvia Kulp hemoans this fact to Mar- garet Shank, Doris Schreiber, and Peggy Witman who are sitting in front of their gym lockers, A common topic of conversation among sophomores is the latest dissection peri- od in biology class. Ronald Wfinters, john Bleyer. jane Hahetkcr. Barbara Frey, Leslie Hackman, james Bush, and Rithard Geiman are hard at work in their study of the birds and the bees. VC'hether school is over for the day or just beginning, the main entrance is frequented by many students. Barbara Kreider, Kenneth Sprecher.
