his yearbook is dedicated to Mother Eileanor M. O’Bryne A to commemorate her presence in the whole design of Manhattanville. She had an unalterable influence, not always seen but felt, on our present campus and past graduates. Eileanor O’Byrne, a woman of leg¬ endary charm, whose voice had a de¬ lightful intonation of a southern drawl was the mother of present day Man¬ hattanvilie. She was at home with people from all walks of life. Her re¬ markable memory and keen mind made an indelible impression on all who knew her. Self-deprecating hu¬ mor made her human. She pursued excellence, surrounded herself with good minds and good manners and conducted college business with the aplomb of a hard headed business ex¬ ecutive. She was a Formidable sight in the original, graceful habit of the reli¬ gious of the Sacred Heart. Mother O’Byrne dedicated her life to the Sacred Heart and when she re¬ signed the presidency of Manhattan¬ vilie, she spent her last years living the simple community life of a retired re¬ ligious, praying and helping others. Her monument is this college, her legacy, the pursuit of excellence and her abiding love, the Sacred Heart. by Mary Francis Phelan
