Dedication The staff of TOWER 1979 finds it most appropriate to dedicate this yearbook to Mr. George Modzelew- ski for his contributions, devotions, and long heart¬ felt years of interest in the Manhattanville com¬ munity. Mr. Modzelewski was born in Rowne, Poland and it was here that he graduated from high school. He furthered his education at the University at Wilno where he received a M.S. in Physics and Mathe¬ matics. In 1949 Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart began to consider introducing Physics into their curriculum and in November of that year Mr. Modzelewski arrived from Poland to fill that position. He lived on the Manhattan campus until the College relocated in 1952, at which time he and his wife also moved to Purchase. He has three children. His two daughters are Manhattanville alumni and his son is in the service. Mr. Modzelewski managed the observatory that was soon built on the Purchase campus. It is in answer to his calls or signs of “Come see Moon’’ that a Physics-oriented or curious person would find him her self at the famed observatory (located to the far right of our Soccer fields). In 1978 Mr. Modzelewski received the Distinguished Teacher Award at Manhattanville. This award is in¬ deed very fitting for a man who has dedicated 30 years of his life to Manhattanville. He is a valuable person to our community, not only in the Physics Department, where he is Chairman; but to the com¬ munity as a whole. Riding his bicycle around cam¬ pus, visiting in the cafeteria, or seeing to it that his students fully grasp and understand their work are ways in which he gives of himself. In gratitude, TOWER 1979 is proud to dedicate this yearbook, which is the largest in the school’s history, to Mr. George Modzelewski. 17
