Introduction In the beginning, our prospects are vast — our horizons, unlimited. We feel the imminent presence of a hidden goal. Who can tell how many times the strings of expectation will be stirred in the course of four years? These years are short and they are long. For a long time we wind our way through a maze of for¬ malities, looking always for a pattern. For a short time that is too short we live amidst a myriad of impressions and we revel in them. Our experience is a kaleidoscope of people and things. With each turn new elements emerge; with each turn we see new visions and we seek new ways to attain the zenith. But visions sometimes can be clouded. These times are times when visions are inexplicably de¬ stroyed and horizons seem to narrow for no reason. We feel that the best of all possible worlds is far beyond our reach. Still, we are being driven forward and ultimately there is joy in our motion. In a small world we gravi¬ tate for four very short and very long years — into a larger world we move and somehow, we have become more than what we were. 5

Dedication Memories of Manhattanville are, for the most part, mem¬ ories of people. Many people make the years good, a few make them outstanding. Among all these people there is a group that we ack¬ nowledge formally as a whole but that we really see as a union of vastly different individuals. To the freshman this group is a collective deity; to the junior, a curiosity. The sophomore envisions the group as one pole of a necessary I—Thou relationship. The senior realizes at last that this group, The Faculty, means people. These people are educators who are more than that. They are men and women who have withstood our ennui and encouraged our brilliance; they have chided our procrasti¬ nation and responded to our impatience. They are, again, and foremost, people who have been our mentors and our friends. The Class of 1966 dedicates this yearbook to the Man¬ hattanville Faculty, who have helped to make four years a full and unique experience. 7
