The unchannelled, impressionable mind of the student is but one source of frustration to his teacher; the task of confining yet freeing that sometimes unwieldy, sometimes too pliable mind, is another. And which of us can resist the temptation to force his teacher to conform to the precondi¬ tions for learning he demands? Why is the sky blue? He doesn ' t know, does he? Why does he wear bow ties? He must create in us the desire to take what he ' s giving. Why should he? Somehow, on this uncommon ground, the foundation of dialogue is laid. Who knows at what point in the tedious process of constant, conscious effort by teacher and gradual maturation of student the some shadow of eternity is spied? 15
