Manhatta nville College of the Sacred Heart Founder’s Hall, Spellman Hai.i. ? Brownson Hall: Art Studio; Brady Memorial Library 3 Administration Building 4 To all who know Manhattanville, the Junior class presents the 1961 Tower , with the hope that you find in its pages a ‘reminder to remember’ the people and events that the words and pictures attempt to describe. There are, however, aspects of Manhattanville which defy realistic presentation, aspects which can only be suggested by the symbolism used throughout the book. Each of man’s traditional symbol’s originates from a point. This point may 6 be extended horizontally, to represent human en¬ deavor; or vertically, a symbol of the assistance of God. The vertical and horizontal coincide in the form of a cross. Just as the symbolism of the cross admits many interpretations in various contexts— each meaning valid in itself and none destructive of another—so too, each more complicated symbol will have a number of meanings, even from the limited frame of reference of life at Manhattanville. Xove of God has its own Xtw”—such is the highest freedom and an element necessary for a truly liberal education. Grateful for her concern that we should all discover this, for ourselves . . .
