In our years at Manhattanville we are given much and we attempt to give of ourselves in return. The members of our faculty offer the priceless gifts of their knowledge and talents— they inspire us as living examples of Catholic intellectualism. Especially in Senior year, when all the work of the past years is synthesized, do we really begin to appreciate the immensity of our debt to them. Each of us receives a certain character from the class to which she belongs. Whether that character be enthusiasm, ingenuity, geniality, or some other, it is inescapable and inevitably makes itself felt in our lives. But every class is composed of individuals, each contributing her person to the whole. We mold and are molded by our individual classes and by our individual classmates, as well. In a larger sense, however, we are united as members of the same college. Through a oneness of purpose and a common devotion to the Sacred Heart we are bound together. Whether our contacts be academic, extra-curricular, or purely social, friendships offered and accepted transcend the ties of class and group and we receive six hundredfold our initial gift of self. 13
