Yet she is not all mind. Her omnipresent, wide grin and her spontaneous giving—“Here, have a bite!’’—show that Franny has less interest in the many topics she discusses than in the many people with whom she discusses them. The Middle-West has given us a well-groomed perfectionist who talks cheerfully, calmly and quietly, but who always convinces with gracious sincerity and intelligent logic.
