F V Bergman, Superintendent Come in says a friendly voice As you en ter you are confronted by a tall distinguished looking man This soft spoken and friendly man rs F V Bergman superintendent of schools Mr Bergman rs vitally interested rn student affairs He has been associated with the Man hattan school system for twenty years Com ing to Manhattan to assume the positron of principal of the Junior High he later became principal of the Senior High School He was acting superintendent of schools for one year 11932-333 and became permanent superin- tendent in 1942. Despite the many great responsibilities he enjoys his present position but misses the contact he had with students when he was principal. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State Teachers College in Em- poria and his Masters degree from the Uni- versity of Colorado. He also attended Peach- ers College at Columbia University for tvso summers. He enjoyed New York City while at Teachers College but vvrs homesick for the pl-rins of Kansas. Mr. Ber'g.,m'rn strongly recommends 'i liber- 'rl f.,encr'1l educ-rtion for the high school stu- dent and participation in student activities for a wcll-rounded education. He has one son following, in his footsteps as a teacher in the Alhambra California schools. Another son is still in the army. Having a strong interest in community af- fairs, Mr. Bergman is a member of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Kiwanis Club, and chairman of the State advisory committee for senior high school textbooks. The past year he has served as president of the alumni association of Kan- sas State Teachers College. Well, what can I do for you says a business like xorce which belongs to H H Br lrop, our high school principal Outw rdly gruff but inwardly warm rnd friendly Mr Bishop has gained the reputrtron of b ing a square guy as our principal He has taught rn Manhattan High School for srxteerr years coming from Randolph Rural Hrgh School He ad vanccd to tht positron of prrncrpfrl four y ars ago A teacher of rnathernatrcs and physics before becoming principal Mr Bishop enjoys ms present office despite the responsibilities of the positron Mr Bishop believes rn and encourages student actrvrtres Activities are half the students education How else could students exercise leadership except reason he supports outside activities rs that he was very active hrnrself rn col lege at Kansas Wesleyan Unix ersrty at Salina He took part in athletics, Y M C A work and Student Council affairs After K W U he attended the Um versity of Chicago and the University of Kan as for graduate work Mr Bishop rs also active rn commu nity affairs and state organizations He rs president of the Central Kansas League and past president of a local service club When he taught mathema tics a few years ago he was president of the Kansas State Mathematics Teach ers Association.
