28 SOPHOM ORE CLASS OFFICERS Left to Rxght Russell Frey Secretary Treasurer Dean Van Valkenburg Vlce President Duane Blough Presldcnt Here we are sophomoxes almost ready to grad uate and take ou1 place among the upperclassmen as Jumols We can all lemembel when we were tops ln Jumor Hxgh and looked forward to cross1ng the court and cl1mb1ng to the same goal ln senlor hlgh There probably wasnt one of our oup who dxdnt long to be a part of sen1or hlgh l1fe as an active sophomore The athletlcally mmded among us were eager to watch fellow braves w1n thr1ll1ng football and basketball games Then there were others who were wa1t1ng the1r chance to run out on the f1e1d or court and f1ght for the glory of 1ously awa1ted the donnmg of the hard earned let ter sweaters Now that the sophomore year IS drawmg to a close we remember many not lucky enough to sport an M sweater who 1ntroduced fads whlch became very popula1 such as the long feathers worn xn the boys caps We don t want to leave the 1mpress1on that 1n the past year we d1d not represent ourselves lntellec tually There were several E1nste1ns 1n our class who mamtamed stralght one averages on the1r grade reports both f1rst and second semesters These few should be hlghly commended as well as twenty one other honor students who d1d not have one grade average below a two for the entlre year All of these students have earned scholastlc awards for the1r hrgh grades Those who were not so out standmg mn thelr stud1es th1s past year may be able to cl1mb to the ranks dur1ng the1r Jumor year Remember when we had ou1 electlon of class of f1cers last spr1ng and what a fme group they were Headxng our class was capable Duane Blough p and Coming Duane was actlve all year carrylng out h1S execu t1ve dut1es and helplng h1m was v1ce presldent Dean Van Valkenburg not to mentxon the ever de pendable secretary Russell F1ey Already we are th1nk1ng about next years electlon Naturally we hope to choose as wlsely as we d1d th1s year It has been an eventful year for those who are muslcally talented s1nce there have been many op portun1t1es to pe1form These opportun1t1es have var1ed from home room programs to speclal musxcal programs such as the Chr1stmas Muslcal sponsored by M1 Fly By the way thexe were the chosen s1x from our class who wele 1n the Robed Cholr There were a orchestra Dur1ng the f1rst semester the play entltled Plane Crazy vsas presented by G R. and H1 Y orgamza t1ons Many sophomores trxed thexr hand at act mg Some of these made the grade and a few had lead parts and all helped to make the play the great success It was We had our good tlmes too Remember the sophomore dance? M1ss Marley our class sponsor the class offzcers and the commlttees certa1nly de serve a vote of thanks Another dance whlch the g1rls partlcularly looked forward to was the Gold Dlgg8fS Ball Th1s dance falrly new 1S Manhat tan Hlgh School has become a trad1t1on for the boys wlth 1ts corsages that range from a cactus to an onlon Last but not the least the Sophs served at the feast of the Jumor senlor where each was on h1s best behavlor It has been a wonderful year and we have had lots of fun 1 V' Q Y - . . . - . . . . .
