24 The emor aunts My Reverie- Sophomore Shuffle The Sophomore Party xx as held rn the gym where Miss Marl y who was sponsor of the Sophomore class and her committees revealed their capabrlrty by planning a most enjoyable party Sex eral games were furnrshed for those who did not dance The prosram during rntermrssron consrsted of vocal numbers by Shirley King accompanied by Corinne Holm and a Xylophone number by Duane Blough Doughnuts and cokes were served as refreshments Many sophs attended the party and had a swell time Victory Dance Follow ing a victorious game with our rrvals Junc tion Crty the Pep Club sponsored a dance rn the gym All the students of both Manhattan and Junction Crty Hrgh School and their faculties were rnvrted The music was canned but rt xvas lots of fun especially for the M H S students Pigskin Hlghllght The Pigskin Prom nine years ago was voted to become an annual affair Each Vear has brought many improvements and each successive Prom has been termed a greater suc cess This years Prom ch maxed the end of a vrcto rrous football season Cr 1 in Ruth Vthrlrrar Srnce drffer ent committees planned the Prom we must of these committees B xer ly Cuddy headed the King and Queen commrttee the decorations committee was under the gurdrng hands of Ross Mrller and Majol Pol lom the refreshments were planned by Gwendolyn Short orchestra committee was headed by Drck Nabours Don Buster and John Bus enbark Marrlyn Guest and her committee xx er e rn charge of the games the program committee chair IRON lxINC AND Qll'lNl ml- L, rr r man was Gloria Wilson: with Jim Balderson as the publicity chairman. All of these committees were advised and superxised by Barbara Wright and Richard Cederberg xxho acted as co chairmen for the dance Mr Durham xx as the facultx sponsor A fourteen preee colored orchestra from Fort Rr ley furnished the music for the dance No doubt the orchestra had much to do with the success of the Prom The dance xx as held rn the ymna srum The orchestra as the marn point of rnter est was located on an elevated platform near the south end of the floor The stream rs on the band stand led up to a huge blue football on which the letters M H S were plac d The throne where the King and Queen pr esrded xr as elaborately dec orated with blue xelvet and streamers Murals representing a stadium covered two srdes of the gym wlrrle small footballs xxrth the player s names hung on the opposite wall Prng pong tabl s cards and other games were available for those who drd not wish to dance Clexer dance programs were designed by the program committee Some of the dances were named for players The coronatron of the Krng and Queen took place durrn the rntermrssron Accompanied by therr at tendants the couple ascended the throne and were crowned The King s throne xx as occupied by Ted Grimes xx ho w as presented wrth a mrnrature down box Ruth Whrtnah xx ho sat rn the Queen s place was presented with a crown They shyly recerxed their croxx ns from Agnes Husband and Dean Van Val kenburg After intermission Mentor extras xxere drstrrbuted by members of the Journalism c'ass containing accounts of the C K L championship game As all ood thrn s must come to an end at 11 30 the ,af lr hts xxere dimmed and we danced the last dance end the Prgskrn Prom of 1944 40 Final Fling The Journalism class spon sored a dance immediately , 1 , . 25 And I Am Once Again ith You followrng frrst semester frnals The dance was to help rarse monev for the Blue M Although there was a small attendance those attendrng seemed to have a good tlme Males Dellght The grrls really showed the boys a good trme at the Golddrggers Dance February 10th It was fun tfor the grrlsr to choose whom you wanted to go wrth and to do the cuttrng for once Arrrvrng rn the famrly car the grrls escorted therr dates to the gym to present the outstandrng srghts of the evenrng whrch were the corsages won by the boys Everythrng possrble was drsplayed on therr lapels makrng novel eye catchers After the dance the drrve rn and tea room were crowded wrth grrls and therr hungry dates The dance was sponsored by the Junror class to help them rarse money for the Junror Senror The general management was under Fred Rogers pres rdent of the class wrth vrce presrdent Drck Morse and Treasurer Glorra Wrlson assrstrng hrm Klclclres Krawl The annual Senror Junror was held on March 17th rn the boys gym The dance was planned as a krd party and everyone dressed accordrngly plannrng the dance and therefore were responsrble for rts success The gym was approprrately dec orated wrth nursery rhyme murals paper dolls streamers and blocks rn the corners Prnk and blue programs contarnrng names of chrldhood actrvrtres for each dance for rnstance The Krddre car Creep were grven to the krddres Tom Flannelly pr esrdent of the senror class pre srded as master of ceremonres durrng the rnter mrs sron Several I-Iawarran hulas were gry en by Alrce Becker and Mrs Harlan Thrs drew generous ap plause from the audrence A vocal number was grven by Ruth Alrce Darley Corrnne Holm s boogre woogre was also enJoyed by all Soft drrnks and cookres were proyrded for eyery one there The spare moments between dances were occupred by yo yoes rubber guns marbles and many other toys Everyone had a wonderful trme and agreed rt was a swell flrng Hoopsters Howl Immedrately followrng the Basketball Banquet whrch was hrghlrghted by an address by Phog Allen and sponsored by the Pep Club the students adjourned to the boys gym for a dance Formal Farewell The largest party of thrs year s socral season was the annual Junror Senror banquet and dance The prrate theme was cleverly carrred out at the banquet wlrrch was held at the M6th0dlSt church Fred Rogers presrded over the banquet and dance as toastmaster and presrdent of the Junror class After the program the upperclass men rn gay sprrrts adJourned to the hrgh school gymnasrum where they spent the rest of the evenrng dancrng to a local orchestra The decoratrons were approprrate for the occasron wrth the prrate theme exceptronally well carrred out The programs were rn the form of a treasure map The commrttee charrmen rn charge of thrs party were Shrrley Krng dance decoratrons Roy Won der musrc Norma Lou Myers programs and rnvr tatrons Harrrs Mrller ames and refreshments Glorra Wrlson and Ruth Darley banquet and dec oratrons As thrs was the onlv semr formal party of the year and the last Junror senror for the out gorng senror class rt w as certarnly a wonderful endrng for the senrors Blue M Bawl After patrently w artrn for the school year to pass by the nr ht frnally 'rrrry ed It w as the nrght of the Srgnature Dance The excrtement of the evenrng was caused by the announcement of the Blue M Queen Ey eryone w as enyrous of the queen as thrs rs the most coyeted honor any M H S student can recerye After the annuals were passed around the remarnder of the ey enrn was spent sr nrnt, books Thrs w as the last of our school dances so eyeryone enjoyed hrmself as he neyer had before so hrs memorres of socral actryrtres would be complete to the last chapter v ' ' ' r' r . ,- . .
