DRAMATIC DETAC ENTS The Very Light Brrgade IVILIAN DEFENSE actrvrtres rncludrng an rmr tatron grrls Junror Commandos were presented rn a humorous lrght by Kathryn Ryersons The Very Lrght Brrgade Accordrng to the head of the household Bruce Rrchardson Jrm Farrell the war had gone too far when hrs wrfe Ruth played by Joan Aldous fell off the woodshed whrle spot trng non exrstent arrplanes and hrs daughter Peggy decrded to recrurt a brrgade of grrls for de fense work Even her aunt Marron Haslrp Barbera Vasey had to show her marchrng abrlrty ln the varrous parades Lourse Teeter demonstratrng the energy of Peggy wrote letters to representatrves of all the armed forces to show her patrrotrsm Not only she but also Sprke Tanner Bob Eschenburg the ever pres ent boy frrend were defrnrtely surprrsed to have the soldrer sarlor and marrne arrrve rn Centervrlle Peggy s home at the same trme Thrngs went from bad to worse as Georgra and Vrola under Peggy s leadershrp took over the publrc utrlrtres of the entrre town The parts of these members of the Lrght Brrgade were played by Joan Johnson and Helen Hoover Vrrgrnra Wade Patt Farrman appeared to wrrte up the Rrchardsons war actrvrtres Just rn trme for a happy endrng The armed forces were represented by Charles Walker Brll Johnson and Charles Eslrnger The part of Jake the law enforcement offrcer of Cen tervrlle was taken by Phrl Krser Drck Grrffrng and Jrmmy as newspaper reporter and rnterror decorator respectively helped to remodel the Rrch ardsons The frrst play of the year sponsored by the Hr Y and G R was termed a success by spectators and box offrce recerpts Ever Srnce Eve VER SINCE EVE men have been tryrng to con vrnce themselves as well as the women f mans superrorrty and havrng very lrttle success Thrs was agarn proved rn the Junror play whrch centered around two rrval co edrtors Johnny Clover and Susan Blake each wrth conflrctrng rdeas as to the management of the Pengurn a hrgh school paper The entrance of Lucy Belle Lee who had a doubtful IQ but a Southern accent further complrcated the proceedrngs as Susan drs covered she would lrke to go wrth Johnny to the Chrrstmas dance although he had already asked Lucy Belle The expense of a specral rssue of the Pengurn was defrayed through the scrap collectrng tenden 28 cres of Susan and her frrend Betsy Irwrn However Just as Spud Irwrn the edrtorral assrstant and Johnny had gotten the paper on the street rt was found that one of the chref rtems of Junk came from the local pool parlor It requrred the help of Mr and Mrs Clover arded and abetted by Offrcer Srmmons to keep Susan from Jarl Meanwhrle the hrgh school prrncrpal and one of the pretty teach ers Martha Wrllard drscovered themselves to be marrred rn the Pengurn Only Florence Ryerson and Colm Clements could strarghten out a mrx up such as thrs but they were able to untangle rt so cleverly that Ever Srnce Eve was voted the best hrgh school play for 1942 The cast rncluded Joan Scheu Mrs Clover Mr Clover Bob Brewer Johnny Clover Bob Daly Spud Erwrn Max Cook Susan Blake Jean Swenson Henry Qurnn Brll Salero Preston Hughes Krm Lukens Lucy Belle Lee Irva Smrth Offrcer Srm mons Bob Stewart Martha Wrllard Maxrne Shrrner Betsey Irwrn Helen Ellrng and Football players Glen Munger Jrm Drown and For rrs Frrck What a Llfe HE LAST PLAY of the year was the orrgrnal Henry Aldrrch story What a Lrfe by Clrfford Goldsmrth The audrence sympathrzed completely wrth Henry Aldrrch s varrous predrcaments wrth the faculty of hrs hrgh school Jule Thompson took the part of Henry whrle hrs grrl frrend Barbara Pearson was portrayed by Nrna Jean Heberer Every teachers pet George Brgelowe Brll Aubel seemed to be a permanent resrdent rn the offrce of Mr Bradley the prrncrpal accordrng to Brll Harrrs Ramsour who was burstrng wrth rmportant news The only person that seemed to be able to strarghten out Mr Vecchrto Charles Taylor as to the rdentrty of hrs daughter was Catherrne Gundy as the effrcrent secretary Mrss Shea When the musrc teacher s band rnstruments were stolen both Mrs Aldrrch and a detectrve were called rn on the case Henry was rmmedrately accused of the crrme because of hrs expressed lack of the necessary ducats to the Sprrng formal It was not untrl the rrrespressrble George Brgelowe turned up at a local pawnshop wrth a tuba rn tow that the Aldrrch famrly could breathe agarn Incrdentally Henry went to the dance on the assrstant prrncr pals trckets It all ended happlly however wrth the assrstance of Mrss Prke Shrrley Mrller Mary Joann Yaop Mr Patterson Dan Johnson Mrss Johnson Vrrgrnra Buster Mr Nelson Roy Drown Mrss Eggleston Carolrne Perne Mrss Wheeler Helen Smrth M Bradley Drck Mclnteer Mrs Aldrrch Joan Hay lett and Mr Ferguson Blame Englund A . . 1 . . 1 , , 1 1 1 , - . . . , . , , , ' .
