in memoriam, elliot v. noslsa To ive words to our sorrow at the loss of a dear friend and lo al g Y comrade is difficult, for so man are tl1e ha memories of ears of Y PPY Y deep devotion to a noble cause that the eager mind knows not where to pause for recollection. Elliot V. Noska is no longer with us. Never again shall we be cheered by the infectious smile, the encouraging word, the deep-rooted desire to be of help to all who ask for help. He is gone, and we are left to our own devices. But he has bequeathed a multitude of good works that can never perish. Early in life, this good man gave himself to the service of youth. He made their problems his problems, the molding of their characters his chief concern. He recognized that the years of adolescence are raw years, turbulent years, when youth needs careful guidance, fatherly en- couragement. His was unceasing vigilance in youth's behalf. His reward was the gratitude of thousands of boys who, in school and in the paths to which they turned upon graduation, revered him as the wisest of counsellors, the friendliest of men. This school of ours pulsates with the spirit of Elliot V. Noska. His vision and his planning made possible the growth of a small institution to what it means today in city and nation. Our departed principal never was one to rest upon laurels deservedly won. His question was ever, uWhat more can be done ? HHow else can we help one another? This dynamic quality of his meant growth, foreswore idle stagnation. Let us not merely mourn our departed leader. Let us rather impress upon our hearts the memory of his great vitality, and vow to carry on as he would want us to. IRVING AGRANOFF 3
