Now our throats tighten and our eyes grow glassy whenever we relive certain immortal moments: The Central Park excursions during Spring . . . the inevitable third floor jams . . . twenty laps around the yard . . . our favorite teacher's ultra- long pencil . . . reading Macbeth in English . . . standing on line for milk . . . the salami sandwiches at Ben and Sam's . . . Mr. Herfurtner's deep, rich voice . . . rookies trying to find their rooms . . . counting off in shop . . . marching around the block during a fire drill . . . filing eighth-inch metal in fifth term . . . uncredited maintenance . . . checking mags in seventh . . . watching our pals get drafted.
