Now our throats tighten and our eyes grow glassy whenever we relive certain immortal moments: The Central Park excursions during Spring . . . the inevitable third floor jams . . . twenty laps around the yard . . . our favorite teacher's ultra- long pencil . . . reading Macbeth in English . . . standing on line for milk . . . the salami sandwiches at Ben and Sam's . . . Mr. Herfurtner's deep, rich voice . . . rookies trying to find their rooms . . . counting off in shop . . . marching around the block during a fire drill . . . filing eighth-inch metal in fifth term . . . uncredited maintenance . . . checking mags in seventh . . . watching our pals get drafted. The pretty girls at the school dances . . . snowball fights after school in winter . . . talk and plans for a new school . . . those glorious Christmas and Easter vacations . . . sipping cokes at the lVlanl1attan . . . rookies searching for the swimming pool on the seventh floor . . . the Aeronca in Mr. Miller's shop . . . rowing in Central Park after school in spring . . . the crowded auditorium on a cold day . . . the colorful posters during campaigning days . . . that report card with a failing mark in Math . . . riveting like mad in Mr. Nejezl shop . . . pushing a broom on maintenance days . . . things like that . . . let's go back and relive some of it.
