A. Y ,4MA1HAf+M-.1-E- .fs MANHATTAN CCOlLlLlEfGlE BAND The Manhattan College Band was organized late in October of the present year by Brother Raymond as a potent factor to lead our teams on to victory. A scant three weeks after its inception the Band's fullest ambitions were realized for it played at the Manhattan- C. C. N. Y. game, iand by its spirited marches inspired our football team to achieve a victory-the first against C. C. N. Y. in four years. VVhat a glorious day that was when, after the final whistle blew, the crowd of frenzied rooters 5-rallied behind the 4'Green Band and marched triumphantly aboufithe field. Although the football season was now over, the band continued its noon hour practices. Very few opportunities for public appearances, however, presented themselves during this interval. The one occasion, the lNIanhattan-Villanova game in our gym, showed the efectiveness of a band in spurring on a team to do wonders, for that night saw the first victory of our basketball team over an outside club. The band will continue to function and do all in its power to maintain that spirit which is so effective in bringing victories to our teams. The Leader of the Band is Adolph Valente of the Class of '32. :Q Two Hundred One km D . wa TJX-,JIM V J ,fgyi ,fs 'NL i N-A r X J' x! ,, 1' . --1. F7-ii I. -A 1 ,-, I if M f u D Q! '7 iii - 'N ,GQ MANHATTANITE-' ii' nf N Y 7- ' 1 THE QUADRANGJLIE FRANCIS VV. CLARKE, Editor-in-Chief Joseph Kearney Robert Doherty John Dennehy Edward Scully Hugh Graham James Swift Edward Kelly Edward Reid Michael Dwyer Walter Caughlan Daniel Curtin Gregory DiGiovann1 The Quadrangle at Manhattan is, at present, one of those institutions which are conceived of as the very soul of the place. At one time, though, within our short memory, there was no Quad- rangle, no school paper of any kind in the college. The boom started in the spring of 1924, when the Mirror became a regular weekly organ. Shortly thereafter newspapers became as common around the new buildings as were noisy workmen. The Green H orn, Green Sheet, and a few others harked their wares through the troubled corridors. Finally two of the sheets consolidated into one bigger and better Quadrangle, elected Pete Quinn editor for the following year and amicably adjusted their tottering finances. Since then we have had a capable group of successors in Francis X. Nestor, Edward V. Crowe, William Cochran, Francis Clarke, James Donnelly and James Mooreg and a scarcely less illustrious group of feature writers in Phil McMurray, Carlton Carrol, James Tague and VValter Caughlan. Our main concern, however, is the stewardship of '29, Since their Freshman days members of ,29 have been interested in the con- duct of the school paper. Frank Clarke, Ed Kelly and Joe Kearney early became members of the Quadrangle staff, and in February of 1928, when the Quadrangle was officially taken over by the Class of '29, Frank Clarke was elected to the editorship with Joe Kearney as his associate, Ed Scully as managing editor, VValter Caughlan as news editor, Ed Reid as sports editor, and Ed Kelly, Dan Curtin, Hugh Graham, Bob Doherty, Jim Swift, Mike Dwyer and Greg DiGiovanni as members of the staff. How well they discharged this stewardship we leave to those who have supported the Quadrangle during the past year.
