City College of New York ....... 29 lIN SPORTS The days when we, the graduates, strove for Manhattan on the athletic field for the glory and fame of our Alma Mater have gone and are never to return except for their beautiful memories. Now I sit back in my chair and through the wisps of smoke my pipe sends curling upward I see once again the clash of the Green on the gridiron the Hash of Green on the court, hear the crack of the bat against ball and see the other sports looming in a ha7y background. My heart is sad and in a dreamy mood. I close my tear-dimmed eyes and the picture clears. 'It is back in the autumn of 25' a strong., group of sturdy Freshmen have arrived to carry on the proud name of Manhattan. Hardly have thev settled to the steady run of classes before the first call for football candidates Hlled the air and Twentv- nine responded to the man. Holy Cross College of Worcester, Mass., proved to be too strong and Manhattan came out on the short end of the score, but what a memory we still retain of that struggle. New York Aggies fell before the onslaught of the Green and YVhite and St. Joseplfs at Philadelphia were smashed to bits. Our next game was with the strong, well trained veteran Fordham eleven and after a bloody battle Manhattan came out of the dust and gore defeated, but satisfied at the low score.
