gh CRIN cg CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP ROM THE HEART OF THE NATION Tomek. A TRIBUTE TO RICHARD FOWLER, BORN MAY 28,1958, DIED AUGUST 7, 1977 He was gentle — even sweet, if it is proper to describe a young man so. And yet there was a toughness about Richard that was for him the consummate esteem of his peers, his college faculty members, and administrators. We all knew Richard. There was an unmeasurable depth about him — a determined sense of direc- tion. A familiar sight on campus was to see him sitting quietly, alone, intently reading God’s Word. We even have a picture of him doing that. In the later months he was among us it was obvious that the disease was ravaging his frail body. He did not complain. The week before he re-entered the hospital for what proved to be his final stay, he worked at the col- lege. In his weakened state he could not do strenuous labor and was given lightened tasks, but when lesser men would have succumbed in discouragement and exhaustion, he set his face firmly and contin- ued. He was an absolute inspiration to us all. In those last days, when every breath drawn was an exercise in agony, he talked of his dream for his future. When it was no longer possible to ignore the fact that the end was near, he said wistfully that what he regretted most was not returning to the college to study the precious Word. He died as he had lived, courageously and without complaint. We cannot but believe that the Lord was pleased with the manner of life of his servant Richard. God rest you, dear brother. Know now the rest to which we journey. We shall join you in the morning. Written by W. F.
