For the four graduating seniors this year the ceremony was one of challenge and just the beginning of a new career for Christ. Phillips Mem- orial Library were held October 15, 1973. Mildred Welshimer Phillips (Mrs. B,D. Phillips) was the hon- ored guest and dedication speaker. Acquisition of the facility was made possible by a grant in February, 1972, from the B. D, Phillips Char- itable Trust of Butler, Pennsylvania. President W. F. Lown presided in the dedicatory act, and the Celebration Singers sang For all the Saints during the service. In Mrs. Phillips address she stated, I know that he (Mr. Phillips) would be pleased to know today that we have helped in getting this beautiful building. International students were an asset to our soccer team this year. SOCCeCF we re no. 1! woo-woo Past experience, get-up-and-go, and a lot of skill, proved to be the backbone of a very successful soccer season for the MCC Crusaders. With a 7-2 record, this years team had the winingest season MCC has seen. Besides playing their regular schedule, they had a chance to show their toughness against a good and experienced International team from KSU. They lost this game 4 6, but put up a good fight. Even in the rain and cold weather, the guys had good crowds to back them up. It was great to see sup- port from students and staff alike. We're all in this together. God's majesty and handiwork can be seen in the light and silhouette of a crystalized tree. 43 Chapel time is a quiet, reverant time when the students and faculty can come together and worship our God. Even the electricity going off doesn't hinder us from worshiping the God we love. 44 prayer. vertical communication terrible meek’ The Terrible Meek was presented to several of the area churches during the year. It is the story of a Captain in the Roman army who meets the mother of a political prisoner (Jesus of Nazareth) that he has just crucified. In the end the Roman Captain comes to realize that it will not be powerful armies nor strong rulers who overthrow the empire, but it will be the terrible meek , those followers of Jesus. The Captain was played by Bob Day. Dena Thomas portrayed the Mother, and Mike Mullenix played the Soldier. missions emphasis week Mission Emphasis Week, October 9-11, 1973 was sponsored by Alpha Beta Chi, the campus missions Oreanisation: Gene Dulin of Toronto Christian Mission, Ron Hoffman from the Philippines and George Beckman from Japan were the featured speakers. Each of the men led special workshop sessions each day and preached in chapel around the central theme of That You May Know. All three men participated in a panel discussion on missions during one session. Seminars were led by Bill Scott, Gareth Reese, Ron Goodman, and Richard Hicks. Eddie Elliston and Barton McElroy also spoke. 48 campus revival matthew 9:38 March 18-21, Wayne Smith, minister at the South- land Christian Church in Lexington, Kentucky and Ron and Haven Howard, MCC alumni from Tampa, Florida, conducted the annual campus Revival. The services were held in the KSU All-Faiths Chapel and were centered on Matthew 9:38. 49 celebration SINZErs Paul Stetler, a senior from Manhattan, Kansas, was the Student Director for the group. Celebration Singers traveled and sang extensively this year. Under the direction of Miss Lillie Britton, Associate Professor of Music and Paul Stetler, Student Director, Celebration Singers held weekend concerts in Kansas and Colorado; traveled during Spring Break to Colorado, Texas, New Mexico, and Kansas, and sang at many school functions, including MCC Day, the Benefit Dinner, the Preaching Convention, Parents Day, and held their own Christmas Concert. Celebration Singers worked hard to share their faith through music and spread God's love wherever they went. The students take turns preaching, leading siging, and having special music (always accompanied by a violin). These are precious visits to the students because Christ is their master and their love for him overflows to those who have not yet heard of him as some of these folks have not. Is that you, Lynda Ruth? ? annual benefit dinner Manhattan Christian College hosted its Annual Benefit Dinner on November 30. One hundred Forty-six people attended the $100 a plate affair, which was held in the new Koinonia Campus Center. Proceeds from the dinner went toward the last payment for the furnishings of the campus center. : a | The featured speaker for the evening was Edwin V. Hayden, editor of the CHRISTLAN STANDARD, Virgil Dial, head chef of the Heritage House in Spring- field, Illinois, prepared the gourmet meal. Marriage Wheel , a comedy written by Joel Climen- haga, delighted audiences on three different occasions this spring. The wheel of life rolled from games of Cat and mouse to fisticuffs and finally ground to a halt with love, marriage and church rites. Even then there were a few complications, but they all lived happily ever after and the wheel of life rolled on. Oh! Hello, Bishop Bechtel! Mr. and Mrs. All- ison took charge of both. The Allisons' expanded family took up much of their time; including such important act- ivities as Dorm Council, waterfights, Christmas Caroling, and generally keeping the men intact throughout the school year, Perhaps the most enjoyed of all the Allis- ons! ideas was the monthly birthday parties. The parties were held for all the men whose birthdays fell during the particular month. Evident in these camera shots is the result of Mrs. Allison's renowned cake cookery. The entire student body, faculty and staff at MCC are covered by a group blood entitlement play by which any of those covered or their immediate family, will receive blood free in case of emergency. The college participates in three blood drives during the year, and in order to fill the quota, there is a need for forty persons to donate their blood. red cross blood drive MCC Day was held on November 14, 1973, with a record crowd in attendance. Mr. Bob Alexander, a minister from Thousand Oaks, California; Dr. Robert Linder, a History professor from K-State; and Judge Jerry Mershon, a Man- hattan Probate Judge, were the main speakers on the theme God Can Use Someone Like You . Shirley Rose was the Chairman of MCC Day, and Rusty Andrews was the Master of Ceremonies. Mr. Benedict is shown here doing some necessary electrical repair work. it’s an earful campus carnival } march 30, 1974 The Women's Dorm sponsored a Campus Carnival to raise money for the Alpha Christian Children's Home in Perry, Kansas. Many campus chibs and organizations sponsored a variety of booths to test strength and speed and accuracy. The twenty- three representatives were selected from the classes, the dorms and various campus organizations. Student Council funds helped to sponsor various activities in- cluding Missions Emphasis Week, the Campus Revival, MCC Day, Parents Day, Skip Day, the Winter Banquet, the Spring Banquet, and three Red Cross Blood Drivers. The Student Council did some preliminary work on a revision of the Constitution and By Laws and participated in such special events as the annual Benefit Dinner and the Library Dedication. sm. There were three special weekends one in January, one in March and one in April. The seniors arrived on Thursday and left on Saturday, hopefully to return in the fall.
