Johnson Memorial Lecture- ships and from Phillips University, here recites Jabberwocky for the student body. Joliffe Hail-Hub of Academic Pursuits Located at Fourteenthand Anderson, Joliffe Hall stands as the main cam- pus structure. This building is the site of many activities. Its facil- ities include administrative offices, large classrooms, the Laura Hunter Library, a spacious lounge, anda warm, friendly chapel. The MANHATTAN BIBLE COLLEGE LIBRARY. Librarian Keeps ‘on-the-go!’ Three library facilities; Manhattan Public Library, Kansas State Uni- versity Library, and the MBC li- brary= totaling over 500,000 vol- umes, are all available to all our students. Martha Amlong, Librarian, along with student help, keeps the MBC library running efficiently. One of her biggest jobs is cataloguing approximately 300 s00ks acquired for the library each year. 7 4 i notte % enero rerio tomatic tied | ; i ¢ “ye ae Greshams Combine Talents for MBC Fall of 1960 brought Dr. Charles Gresham, a well-known leader in the field of Christian Education, to the MBC staff. Across his desk students received valuable instruc- tion inBible, Theology and Greek, Other responsibilities included coaching the MBC basketball team and sponsoring the Freshman class. Mrs. Ruth Gresham acted as Gen- eral Office Manager and Secretary to President Lown. Her duties in- cluded typing, filing and keeping the office running efficiently. Second Semester Students Second semester brought several new students, many of whom were transfer students from other colleges and universities. Special students throughout the year were Imogene Simmons, Sam Nickols, Mrs. Grace De ppe, Lynn Van Buren, Ernest Howell, Fred Embry, Carol Lown, and Kathy Middleton. Moving intoa new environ- ment, a formal dinner, orientation, and en- rollment, along with meeting many new peo- ple kept the freshmen busy those first weeks. But as the time fleeted by they soon became a part of the normal school life at MBC. } i i i i eS ...0f fellowship OY IN GY) VA Y) Mens’ Lives Dormitory Christine House accomodates all fresh- men menandother men students desir- ing to live there. Dorm life is filled with concentrated study, heated dis- cussions, a barrage of practical jokes, and just plain fun. At the close of each day, hearts are united together in devotion as a fam- ily. Left: Study occupies a busy student's evening. 20 Enriched By Fellowship Mrs. Johnson Mothers ‘Family’ Being a watchful mother to 25 young men isa big task but it is capably handled by Mrs. T. H. Johnson. Mother Johnson, as she isknown to the boys, al- ways has a cheery word and a helping hand for her family. 21 22 Mrs. Christina Hamon Dormitory Housing 26 single women, Memorial Hall is home to its occupants. Mrs. Christina Hamon, dorm mother, over- sees the emotional maturity, social well-being and spiritual growth of her charges. The girls, with Mrs. Hamon's help, find living together fun and re- warding. While associating in close fellowship everyone finds opportunities to be an example of Christian love. Thanks for physical nourishment is expressed during hushed silence at Tischhauser Dining Hall adjacent to Memorial Hall. ‘Home’ Develops Well-rounded Personalities { Thursday night prayer cells accomplish | mighty works through special communion services, singspirations and meditation. Ber ene s eS ; a= 7 wy a eS” Students Honor Drehers Occupying a warm place in every- one's heart are Johnand Ethel Dre- her, our custodian and cook. Stu- dents, recognizing their hard work and service, held a special Dreher Day in their honor. All will remem- ber the tantalizing aroma of Ethel's cinnamon rolls and John's ping-pong games. ‘Action’ Keynote of Games GET THAT BALL! Athletic participation, another facet of our many-sided college life, provided an out- let for energy, promoted Christian sports manship, and boosted school spirit. The Crusaders, coached by Professor Charles Gresham, played enthusiastically in their fifteen scheduled basketball! games. ry 4 Cheerleaders for 1960-61 were Linda Lown, Janice Bertrand, Ruth Cadoret and Shirley Muse. Pep Club Organizes Attending out-of-town and all home games were members of the Pep Club. Formally organized this year they heightened school spirits, posted beat'em signs, and held pep rallies, Co-eds Benefit From Phys Ed Classes Although the college has no gymnasium, numerous facilities are provided for phys- ical education activities. Skills were learned in many sports and the girls es- pecially enjoyed participating in archery. 29 Inquisitive Sophomores Seek Answers Enjoying their second year at MBC, sophomore class mem- bers engineered an all-school party and other projects. In the classroom they sought answers to their many questions in Christian Doctrine, Life of Christ, Homiletics and other courses. President W. F. May, Direc tor of Public Relations and Professor of Communications and Old Testament, finds life sometimes frustrating but always exciting. ACADEMIC work this semester includes Radio, Hebrew Prophets, and Oral Communications. A WEEKLY RADIO PROGRAM call- ed Moments of Inspiration , recorded in the studios of MBC and released over KKAN in Phillipsburg, is another partof the public relations work. NEWS RELEASES for local, regional and nationa!’ publications usually begin with a click of the shutter of one of the PR cameras. Wally processes the film and makes prints dur- ing the night. Story and captions are writ- ten by Mrs. Christina Hamon, PR associate and mailed out. From these and other pictures, copy i and artwork comes the MBC NEWSa paper with a circulation of 12,000 monthly. Mrs. Ruth Gresham prep- ares the copy on the IBM typewriter and the editors prepare a layout for jse by the engraver who makes the plates which are used on the college printing press. Other brochures, programs and pamphlets are also run | on this press by the PR department. After about 20 hours of printing the paper is ready for folding by Miss Lynda Bowman. She and Mrs. Nadine Lown address, bundle and tie these papers for the designed, prepared and usually manned by the PR personnel asa part of our national program of public relations. Mr. Don Rutledge serves 9S Qn artist designing and preparing materials. Alpha Beta Chi Right: Dale McAfee, a missionary recruit, visits campus. An awareness of the importance of missionary activities was promoted by Alpha Beta Chi, the missionary organization of the student body. The annual hayrack ride was a pro- ject of ABX. Seniors Anticipate Graduation Completing their undergraduate study at Manhattan Bible College, the Class of 1961 departed instilled with a fervor for service.
