Students can learn how to cut the high costs of clothing by learning how to sew. Cooking can also be a rewarding experience, as it teaches the individual to be cre- ative with food. The family life course instructs its pupils in the proper methods of coping in one's present family and possibly one's future family. ENGLISH English may not be everyone's favorite subject, but it is necessary for anyone living in today's society to be able to communicate. The way in which a person expresses himself verbally and in written form will be an important factor in the success they attain. Man- chester's English teachers try to instill a basic under- standing of our language in all of the students, com- bined with exposing them to literature. Mini-courses also provide opportunities to explore different fields of study. In all, the English Department tries to make this important subject enjoyable. ART Creativity and individuality are the principles of the Art Department Students learn to express them- selves in such areas as sculpture, painting, designing and commercial art. With programs geared to bring out a person's talent, the Art Department sees many of its students going on to fine arts colleges all over the U.S. Who knows, maybe a future Michelangelo or Picasso is in Manchester right now!!! MUSIC Whether a person wishes to sing, play an instru- ment or merely gain insight into music, the Music Department enables students to become more famil- iar with music. The high moments of the school year include listening to the wonderful concerts given at Christmas and in the winter and spring. Playing an instrument means that a person is able to perform in the marching, stage or concert bands. For people with a great music interest the music appreciation class provides music environment. Many students will remember the great experiences in the Music Department. ,www I . .,,,. i X if I 1 1 .. . . ff. I ffft . . E- V .. ii. ..., t. ,, , ,,.. .. t 5 .V i ml . S . - I tt' ' Q! at ' I m . And a sound body is exactly what our Physical Education Department wants for all students. To achieve this, subjects such as run- ning, basketball, dance and gymnastics are offered. With so many different sports available, almost everyone has a chance to participate in his or her favorite. During a long day of sittin in classrooms, gym provides a release of energy for some students. Exercising one's mind and one's body are inseparable at Manchester. 'Q lust look at those biceps! Bob, and George use the voltmeter in electronic shop. tf'1if,,,M6x From dissecting in Biology, to concocting in Chemistry, Manchester offers many different types of science experiences. Such courses as Biology, Earth Sci- ence, General Science, Chemistry and Physics are available for all students. Labs are included in the more advanced science courses, with one lab period a week. Experiments provide a deeper understanding of science for students, along with being quite enjoyable. The Science Department's aim is to teach students basic facts about the subject, and that is precisely what they do. Almost all the Math courses needed for college are offered here at Manches- ter. For underclassmen, basics, such as Algebra I and Geometry, are available, along with General and Business Math for students not planning on attending college. Advanced topics such as Trigonometry, Algebra lll and Analytic Geome- try are also covered. For the students interested in Math, Manchester can really supply all the work needed. When you add it all up, Math at Manchester is an interesting and rewarding subject. Busy as a beaver, Adrian concentrates in class. 25 YSES W C 2. 3 FD 3 Cou ...ping ping ping ping... Stu- dents do not take such courses just to receive a high grade, but to learn skills necessary to compete in the business vvorld. Tvvo years of both typing and stenography are offered to prepare future secretaries or clerks. Bookkeeping is also offered from which a career in accounting could be derived. Even college preparatory stu- dents find some of these business courses worthwhile. Some knowledge of typing, for example, is necessary in college, since many assignments are accepted only in the type-written form. ...ping mt? 7 'l Mike uses the language lab during Spanish class. l ' 1 :2 K iesss sss T . ss,ss ....32,.. .,,, . eeeeiX L Qiil ff f Translation: German, the language of geniuses! The vocal music department at Manchester is divided into three different groups. Although these groups may differ in proficiency they all share a common goal -to bring pleasure to their listeners. This task is accom- plished most enjoyably three times a year at the Christmas, Winter, and Spring Concerts. Students can lend a needed hand in the Main Office during their study peri- ods if they wish. This group is very helpful to the school secretaries. They pick up attendance, deliver passes, sign in late students, and do general office work. Simply, the girls involved in these activities really help the office run more effi- cient y. Guidance, teachers and secretaries are assisted by students in their offices in many ways. They deliver passes, make schedule changes and do some filing. Also, if any students will be on a prolonged absence, the office helpers will have the assignment sheets filled out for them. This is just another example of how students working with and for the school staff help to keep everything running at Manchester. lift mftiwi saws mf!-gm-4 3-D 3' Ho:-,D 0Q3 fD rn TD' ,fn--Z YH: Q43 IT., f'?s35'gg3 SYQEM 130- Z 9102-iQ c'w 3'2 Q-ll'.Q-.ibm 030 asm fa qaariw SSEJUE 3 oo- Q-.'
