PERFOR ED AT FULL PGTE TIAL The I978 Track team. led by Senior captains Joe Helblc. Pat Cleary. Karen Ververs and John Schott. ended their season with a league record of 5-4 and an overall record of 6-4. During the season. four school records were broken. These feats were accomplished by Pat Cleary with a 40 3 in the triplejump, by Bruce Baumgartner with a distance of 583 in the shot-pu throw. by John Schott with a time of 42 seconds in the intermediate hurdles. and by Mary Sellitti with 5 4 in the highjump. Many athletes were recognized for their per- formances in the different areas of track and field. Bruce Baumgartner was named first All- League. first All-County. third in the Group Two State Sectional. and seventh in the State All Group finals. Mary Sellitti earned the posi- tion of State Sectional champ and was first All League first All County and the State Final runner-up. Pat Cleary was given an honorable mention. All League and All County for the half mile: Joe Helble was an All Area honora- ble mention in the mile. Also, the Girl s 440 relay team. consisting of Diane DeMarco. Kathy Botlick Marie Zuras, and Betty Ven- turo received honorable mention All League and All County. The teams coaches Mr. ONeill and Mr. McGarry. felt that the team performed at full potential, Although they attributed the team s overall success to outstanding senior leader- ship they were especially pleased with the freshman boys. who were fourth in the league. When asked about this years boys team the coaches said that the team hopes to improve but lacks upperclassmen. They are expecting bigthings.
