It also has a record number of male voices this year. The choir is designed for those stu- dents who enjoy singing. Most of the girls in choir have gone through 2 years in chorus, but the boys are immediately placed in choir. The group performs in December, March, and May. They also travel to the 3 grammar schools to give the students there an idea of what Manchester offers musically. The choir also participates in a Choir Festival held in Bloomfield in May. Mr. James Bender, the choir director hopes to take the choir on a trip to compete against other schools in the Spring. The Madrigals are a group of fifteen singers-who are chosen from the choir. These members must audition in order to gain a position in the choral group. The Madrigals usually sing songs with difficult harmonies in which each person has a different part. The singers also sing acapella. They meet twice a week to rehearse, unlike the choir which practices during class time. This year the Madrigals are putting on a show. The show is com- posed of various songs from Broad- way plays and will be seen on Feb- ruary 15-17.
