It is in nearly the same spirit that we, the administrators of Manchester Regional High School, send you forth, for we have stood in the place of your parents for the past four years. You came to us as freshmen, possessing the gift of reason. During your years with us, we and the teachers at Manchester have tried to show you the truth of Gibranis thoughts on reason: Reason is a prudent minister, a loyal guide, and a wise counsellor. Reason is light in darkness, as anger is darkness amidst light. Be wise-let reason, not impulse be your guide. We have worked also to pro- vide you with the necessary concomitant of reason, namely, knowledge. Yet be mindful that even if reason be at your side, she is helpless without the aid of knowledgef Gibran says, 'Without her blood-sister, knowledge, reason is like houseless poverty, and knowledge without reason is like a house unguardedf' In your years at Manchester each of you has acquired knowledge to accom- pany your native gift of reason according to your ability and willingness. It is time now to go forth on your individual paths to use your gifts and acquisitions for the betterment of yourself and the world. Robert Louis Stevenson has well articulated his view of life: To be what we are, and to become what we are capable of becoming, is the only end of life. You could do worse than to adopt this view for your own, but whatever your view of the end of life, we hope we have provided you with appropriate means to accomplish it. Thus, we send you forth with all good wishes and hopes for your success and happiness in all your future endeavors. We wish you strength, courage, and faith, for you have many miles to go before you sleep. Affectionately, ' E , JL..-A Robert E. Spreen, Principal MJ j Richard R. In classes deal- ing with contemporary issues students are acquainted with problems faced by people today. Hopefully, at some point in the future, man can de- velop a harmonious relationship between peoples of the earth living not on the brink of disaster, but on the threshold of true peace and security. S2 pf: ...J If you have ever wondered just what makes a yearbook, keep on reading! There are various editors, each having a different staff. The sports editor covers and records all athletic events. The literary edi- tor, who composes the Write-upsf' and identifies the people pic- tured, works with the layout editor, who chooses and lays out the pictures. The typing editor sees that all written material in the book is typed correctly, and the business manager aids in the selling of ads and yearbooks. Co-editors-in-chief work in Whatever area they can to ensure the book's.success. A very important asset to a yearbook staff are good advisors who work hard to see that the book is being done correctly. The main objectives are to bind the parts of the book together smoothly . . . the combined result of their effort-a great yearbook. SENIOR HOMEROOM 214 It's 8:70 as we start another long day, But it's been a lot of laughs we really must say. The bell has rung but not everyone's here. About ten seconds later, FRANK and MARK appear. The moment of silence is rarely observed, The announcements are read but never heard. MISS VAN GROUW is never in her proper chair, and CATHY and CHERYL are always brushing their hair. YVONNE and MARIANNE talk all the while, As MR. REUTER turns his head with a weird looking smile Sit down, scholars, please cooperate. No, you can't go to your locker, you'll have to wait. We can't forget TAGGS with his injured neck, Or the corny jokes ot DEB VANDERBECK. ED was always smiling and NANCY always quiet. Mr. Reuter you must admit your homeroom was a riot. LIZ and STEVE talk of romance in the world, While CAROL makes sure her hair is neatly curled. ROSE and NICK tied for the quiet award, and ANDY TOPP was forever bored. DEB and GEORG were in charge of collecting money, But no one ever had their dues which wasn't very funny. There wasn't even a dime for BARB'S last slam cardf Through all this commotion, ARLENE studied hard. Now it's 8:fO and we must move on. Just think, Mr. Reuter, next year we'II be gone! So smile, you'll be blessed with nice, quiet frosh, Probably wishing we were back, by gosh! We know you'll miss us-we'lI miss you, too. But happy memories will remain our whole lives through. gona!
