The memories of my Dutch family and friends and the times that we will share in the future are special. But the main objective of the AFS program is to show people that everyone, no matter who they are or where they come from, has something special to offer. Touching the mind, emotions and lives of others, should be valued above all else. I wish you this same warmth and happiness in the future. Nancy Donovan Summer Exchange Student Somebody said that “the lessons for the future are written in the past.” Well, my hopes and desires for the future are taken from the lessons of this year, the triumphs and the failures, the good and the bad, the happiness and the sadness, the laughs and the tears. I think you already have heard it said many times that an AFS year is an unforgetable experience, and it’s true! There is within me a still growing development of understanding other people, myself, tolerance, peace, and I hope and believe it is not going to stop as quickly as this year is passing by. This year is only the beginning, but a wonderful and tremendous beginning. I will thank all of you who I got to know at MHS; you have made the time here wonderful for me. Thankful thoughts are also going to the AFS club and chapter, which has made it possible for me to come here, and last, but not least, I will mention the Stager’s, my host family, who is understanding and fertile in ideas, and have done unbelievable things for me. Thank you (TAK). I hope that many students in the fucure will get the same chance as I got. It is an education of living! Love, Hijertelig Hilsen Helle Romme Hausen “Petersdal,” Nebbelunde 49°70 Rgsdby DENMARK 45 Meskill Assembly Governor Thomas J. Meskill came before the youth of Manchester for the first time in Bailey auditorium, becoming an open target for their endless questions and comments. The governor could not spend enough time, though, to hear all the students and many left dissatisfied. 46 Aridian Ellen Cosgrove — Literary Editor Linda Claraban — Art Editor Marjorie Taggart — Assistant Art Editor Pat Bouley — Business Manager Staff Judy Brown Janice Butler Keith Costa Cindy Dodson Martha Licber Jullien Martin Sue Marteney Ed Plumb Judy Scott Barbara Senna Kevin Shea Rae Strickland Andy Vaiculis Robin Wagner Lisa Whiston Top — Ellen Cosgrove and Janice Butler. To strive, to reach, to find and not to yield. Excelsior! Excelsior! Excelsior! Education is the gift of knowledge. Smile, Love and be happy. The present is the blueprint of the future. Youth of today; Leaders of tomorrow. Let our education be the pathway to a better world. Through courage and fortitude we shall persevere. May our life be like that of an apple tree, fruitful. As we climb the ladder of life, each rung will be a rewarding experience. Live for the present; the future is uncertain. Give to others and you will receive much more. A happy man is at peace with the world. Live in peace and love and you will find joy. It is better to give than to receive. Be studious and steadfast; then you will achieve. Friends come in pairs; people were meant to be sociable. Our outcasts may be anothers’ kings; there is a place for everybody. War brings prosperity; Peace, depression. Everything functional is beautiful; Be functional, Like the waves on the sand we too are restless. Happy is the man who can fly; dead is the man who tries and fails. 191 Pro nobis vivimus Pro aliis spem habemus Pro mundo adspiramus We live for ourselves, We hope for each other, And we dream for the world Class Officers PRESIDENT: Michael Shensie VICE PRESIDENT: Trinky Hicock SECRETARY: Randy Comp CO-TREASURERS: Matt Hennigan and Nancy Donovan A 2h 4.
