High School Worlcl Reports Weekly Events Every Friday night several thousand people sit down to read the High School World page in the Manchester Evening Herald. Before them are spread the sto- ries of people and events which affect lVl.H.S. each week. Behind the scenes Worldings, supervised by lVIrs. Don and co-editors Helene Kiecolt and Barb Coconi, work frantically to meet their Wednesday deadlines. At the beginning of the year each reporter is assigned a beat, a club, sport, or special events. A special column, the Legion of Honor, is also written to give recognition to wor- thy seniors. Bob Herman works out a homework prob!em on the board. K . Mrs. Cynthia Mottle Mrs. Eileen Wilson New Math Course Offered . For college preparatory students the mathematics department offers the standard high school courses of algebra,-geometry, and trigonometry as well as math analysis and a new course in sets, probability, and statistics. Accelerated students have the opportunity of taking a full year of college Calculus under the University of Connecticut co- operative plan. Those who qualify obtain six cred- its at the University. For non-college bound students a basic math, al- gebra and geometry are taught. Those girls pre- paring for nursing may take the Nurses' Math courseg while the student preparing to enter the business world may select Business Math. A prize is given after each year to the outstanding math student in the Senior class. This prize is offered by the United Aircraft, and awarded on the basis of excellency and superior performance in all mathematics courses taken. Mr. .lay Stager Co-editors Penny Taylor and Arlene La Penta select pictures for the yearbook. Somanhis Captures Fond Memories . . . In February 1965, soon after the final por- tion of Somanhis 1965 was sent to the printer, work was begun on Somanhis 1966 with the choosing of co-editors Penny Taylor and Arlene LaPenta. A new staff of twenty-five sophomores and juniors was selected in competitive tryouts and soon began meeting each Friday after- noon in Rm. 209 under the direction of Nlrs. Kelson and lVlr. Stager. In the weeks that followed members learned the me- chanics of making a yearbook and voted on important decisions as to the format of the '66 Somanhis. In addition to Friday af- ternoons staff members worked in the So- manhis office during study halls and spent many hours after school as they neared deadlines. The staff wishes to extend special thanks to lVlrs. Kelson and lVlr. Stager, our advi- sors, and to Loring Studios and the Nlan- chester Evening Herald photographers, lVlr. Saternis, lVlr.
