The English Department, with Mr. Hunt as depart- ment head, has' started many new programs this year. A new system of teaching combines linguistics and grammar by use of over-head transparencies which allow the teacher to direct the attention of the students to the particular line being discussed. Speech classes, supervised by Mrs. Prevost and Mr. Gibbons, have been started with the future hope of incorporating these into the regular English classes. Under the direction of Mr. Gibbons, the English De- partment began this year the presentation of films involving literature covered in classes. Trips to the Stratford theater are sponsored, which this year offered the opportunity to see such plays as Twelfth Night, Caesar, and Henry IV.
