CLASS HISTORY Tume came to order our class rungs When they came there was much excutement as we compared and trued on everyones rung ln the Sprung we gave a rung dance and unvuted the senuors as guests of honor Stardust was our theme We turned the Gymnasuum unto a pleasant garden at nught wuth a dark blue sky twunklung overhead wuth a mass of sulver stars Everyone had a wonderful tume There have been many changes at Manchester sunce we were frughtened eughth graders A new wung wuth twelve classrooms clunuc room an audutoruum and a cafeterua has been added Wu h th buuldung of Holly Inn we at last found a suutable hangout and could be found there almost any tume even at lunch At last September of l949' We were proud senuors and entered unto our senuor year full of happy antucupatuon yet wuth a feelung of regret that thus would be our last year at Manchester We elected Margaret Sumpson Presudent Irby Brown Vuce Presudent Wrenn Moorung Secretary and Lewus Reese Treasurer Mrs Tompkuns and Muss Fullon were our sponsors The MEMOIR Staff was ummeduately organuzed and we began work on our annual Many students worked hard and fauthfully so that our annual would be one of the best On September 30th our class left Manchester on two school buses headed for Charlotte vull We were to be guests of honor at the Vurgunua George Washungton foot ball gam at Scotts Stcuduum We al o vusuted Montucello All too soon we had to reuurn home but the day had been fun' The n xt dat on our socual calendar was December 22 The Chrustmas dance was guven un our new cafeterua whuch was decorated un the tradutuonal holly and cedar Another date long to be remembered by our class was March 17 We presented our furst play Luttle Mu s Sputfure Headung the cast was Margaret Sumpson as Nora the luttle sputfure Supportung her were Wayne Gubson Ann Moore Wulluam Clements Ardeth Evans Elva Clodfelter Irby Brown Lewus Reese Peggy Maxey Vurgunua Root Leonard Morgan and Harold Pannell Mrs Tompkuns was our durector Tume came for orderung our unvutatuons and callung cards We really began to realuze what luttle tume we had left The doors of the Gymnasuum were closed to the senuors as the uunuors began workung on the prom Wuth natural curuosuty we would peek now and then and catch a glumpse of the yellow and green decoratuons Our curuosuty was satusfued on May 12 The gymnasuum was decorated as a beautuful colonual garden Sprays of holly hacks and roses attracted our attentuon and the checkerboard woven ceulung blended perfectly The prom was a bug success We can never thank the lunuors enough for such a wonderful tume Our last months were fulled wuth many happy events The furst was our Senuor Banquet May 19 Appropruate gufts and speeches were presented Then came Senuor Day We had the freedom of the school and un our senuor S C A program we saud our farewell to the faculty and student body On June Sth we receuved our duplomas and became graduates of Manchester Hugh School Although we are leavung our years of work and play our successes and faulures all of those thungs that have played a part un our hugh school lufe have made a dent un our memory that cannot be erased We suncerely thank our teachers our pruncupal and our fellow students for theur help and guudance throughout the years we have spent wuth them T203 ' I . ,.
