The very foundations of social order and justice and human rights have been so torn asunder that we in these United States of America are today facing a crisis far more serious than many of us dare to realize. I have so desire to be an alarmist, but, regardless of whether or not the United States becomes actively engaged in the present world war, it is surely going to affect our American way of life. To what extent our way of living will be influenced by this war on democracy and the.democratic way of life time itself can only tell. Of one thing I am sure and that is that sooner or later there must come a period of social readjustment which will tax every thinking person in America to the utmost. I think that the present world struggle will not be over tomorrow nor even for several tomorrows yet to come. Therefore, the young men and the young women of today are to be faced with the great task of participating in this social readjustment. Are you preparing to take your share of the responsibility? Are you capable of intor- preting what you read and hear with a clear and unbiased mind? Are you capable of doing some thinking for yourself or do you have to depend on some one else to do your thinking for you? In this day of common peril it is not enough for us to merely say that I put my trust in God and let it go with the saying. If we as Christian nation expect to exercise the proper influence over the world, we must daily live that trust in God so that He and the world may know that for which we stand, So live, that when thy summons comes to join The innumerable caravan, which moves To that mysterious realm, where each shall take His chamber in the silent halls of death, Thou go not, like the quarry-slave at night, Scourged to his dungson, but, sustained and soothed By an unfaltering trust, approach thy grave Like one who wraps the drapery of his couch About him, and lies down to pleasant dreams, TRPOLNTEVLHRAAHA EYE Aegeedeteengiteniae ze) 4 HENAN nd? ae | AOMORI Aectepet HL iAttaate HET EL LITE fF (Habs ee tae)
