Oh to have them now' 3rd Yes thud grade brought about a change of burldlngs We were done wtth that prtmary ktd stuff 4th Sandy allas Shaffer acqulred the name Scatterbratn thls year and Bob Lxnd became a member of our class There was an accrdent that wmter whrch we wtll probably all remember Loren Ruddlesdtn lrterally splattered Duane Teske 7th No recess We moved down to the lst floor at last Mary Messerlr from Montrcello became one of our class rn thts year Vtoletta O Dell Manlyn Schrader and Vernon Maulson who also had Mrss Ryan for theu kmdergarten teacher Jotned us too 8th They cleaned out the attrc for us Yrpel That means three flights of steps rnstead of only two So ured trudg mg up and down! Archre Frye broke several rulers thls year and many students had therr hands rapped by hrs famous hrckory strck The hrgh school student counctl asked the erghth grade rf we would ltke to enter a float rn the Home comrng parade We felt real pleased Bob Ltnd and Joyce Joslyn were elected to rrde on the float It rarned on Home comtng day' No parade At last we re on our way to hrgh school' 9th On August 28 1948 seventy ftve nervous green freshmen ascended the steps of M H S to begrn the1r hrgh schoolcareers They elected Don Nealas president of the class Cltfford Kehrlr vrce presrdent and Drck Neal as secretary treasurer After the frrst few days of wanderrng from room to room they settled down to the normal routrne of a fresh men yiear paper wads gum and alrplanes At the end of the year they emerged wtth the slrghtest degree of knowledge p Sl e August 29 1949 started the sophomore year for seventy four of these students wrth some new faces added Offrcers for thls year tncluded Bob Lrnd prestdent Clrfford Kehrlr vtce presrdent and Erleen Schuchmann as secretary treasurer They enyoyed many socral events dunng the year tncludtng the Flunkers Froltc whtch they sponsored The Junror year was a btg event for all stxty ftve of them After electron of offtcers the results were Don Neal presxdent Dtck Neal vrce presrdent and Davrd Tracey as secretary treasurer The Jumors sold candy hot dogs pop corn hamburgers pop and coffee at the football and basketball games to rarse sufftcrent funds for the Banquet At the begtnmng of the second semester the Orlental Gardens was chosen the theme After workrng fevertshly they presented the sentors and faculty an unforgettable occasron whrch brought the year to a grand cltmax The grand ftnale to our Journey through ht h school began w1th stxty four boys and grrls Our only new student was LeRoy Pettlon The offrcers for the year were Sitrley Boss prestdent Bob Retz vlce prestdent and Ray McMahon sec retary treasurer Don Neal and Bob Lrnd were chosen as co edrtors of the yearbook Thls year they also got to know a new giorge Washmgton and Abraham Lrncoln They were proud as theu popular Martlyn Schrader was chosen Homecommg een wtth Margre Chrlds as mard of honor As the weeks rolled by they became anxtous for graduatton but a lrrtle re luctant to leave old M H S too So wrth fond memorres of good trmes and good friends we btd adteu to our alma mater E T - L- U . .
