Carrothers, Chrystal, Mr. Belknap, Timmons, Rector, Barker, Sloan, Miller Front How: Bergstrand, Bissell, dechelli, Mullan, Leighton, Eberhart Coach Belknap and his assistant, Mr. Beckman, started the season with four letter men left from the previous season. The boys emerged from their tough schedule with five wins and ten losses, a record of which the players can not be ashamed. During this season a nhelieve it or Nota fact occurred. The Manhawks lost eight games by three points or less. Five of these narrow losses were by one point, and two of these five Lpolnt games occurred during one week, our players bowing to Wilson of Cedar Rapids and Vinton on Tuesday and Friday nights. The Manhawks entered the County Tournament , defeated Dundee ln the first game, but were de- feated by Greeley in the next contest determined by a lone tally. The Manchester team journeyed to Strawberry Point to participate in the sectional tournament, and met Elkader in their first game. They were again defeated by the one point Jinx. Team members who will graduate are: Albert Carrothers, Chrystal, Bechelli, and Mullen. Ted Winters and Russell Miller acted as ath- letic managers during the year.

The local boys nlayed scrappy and spirited football in each game but were unable to conquer their slight- ly heavier foes. The Manhawk line was composed of NMikeH Sury- stul at center, A1 Eberhart and John Swift as guards, Captain Dick Burt and Bd DuBois as tackles and at end were Milton Joslyn and Bob Bissell. At the backfield nositions were Bob Leighton, Gordon Jechelli, Allyn Carrothers, and Roger McIntosh. As the season progressed, Nyle Bergstrand was shifted to center and Umiken Chrystal took Bob Leighton's position. Albert Carrothers also re- Dlaoed John Swift at a guard position and did a very efficient job of halting his opponents. As the Armistice Day same ended, the follow- inm seniors had olayed their last high school football: Burt, Dubois, Chrystal, Hechelli, Al- bert Currothers, Allyn Carrothers, and T. Mhite. IO

They won five games and lost four, which gives them a rating of .556. Not a bad record for boys just beginning their basketball career! The starting line-up at the beginning of the season found Hatch at center, Mclntosh, Fenton and Roloff, forwards, Corll and Arnold at guard. Soon after the season started, Cloud took over the forward duties with Mclntosh. As only seventh, eighth, and ninth grade boys may play, the team will lose the following players next year: Cloud, Arnold, Fenton, Traner, Corll, Noble, and Krutzer. However, the loss by the junior high will be the high school team's new gain. IL
